In the interest of fairness let's also look at his best Slam results:

US Open - 2008 Second Round
French Open First Round - numerous times
Wimbledon - 2010 Quarter-final
Aussie Open - Third Round 2009, 2012

For a 29 year old that record hardly blows you away does it?

What about ATP tour finals? Oh wait, he's never been in a final.

Funnily enough I'm basing my comments on this season's results.

How strange.

The fact you think a guy who has made a GS quarter final and 3rd round of another Slam twice isn't good enough to be playing at ATP level. Interest of fairness Lorenzi never had those results at Slams.

You're trying to make into a Lu fan aren't you? So Ito, Soeda, Lorenzi, Hajek, Ramirez Hidalgo, Prodon can match Lu's achievements at tour level. Lets see Lu has won 12-18 at tour level this year, that's more matches than the others even in a season where has hid playing poor events in Asia.

I have a question for you, is Brian Baker better than Lu in your opinion?

Well done on proving Lu can't compete on the ATP.

It's true that the poster you are arguing with is arguably the worst on these boards, but it's not like you're too far behind either so you can't exactly take the high ground.

This is a 'duel' truly worthy of an ACC final.

Lu is an ATP player. This season alone he's beaten Ferrer, Nieminen, Tipsarevic, Benneteau, Falla, Kubot. He's beaten Andy Murray at the Olympics, Andy Roddick in Wimbledon, David Nalbandian. So obviously he's an ATP player. He's also wildly inconsistent, a mental midget and mostly bad on slower courts. He plays the system and stays in Asia because he knows he can feast off of weak players in Asian events, but that doesn't mean he can't hang at the ATP level.

I can't remember of a better example than Machado in 2011.

Pretty sure any player who reaches a GS QF is good enough for ATP level. Lu has wins over Murray and Roddick. He's a bad example for this thread.

I also disagree rating Lu not an ATP player. He maybe isn't right now, but he's been one for some time.

Players i personally rate Too good for CH and not enough for ATP are - Darcis, Zemlja and Soeda.

The rest either have been ATP in the past (Muller, Hanescu, Ben.Becker etc.) or not too good for CH yet - Ito, Kuznetsov, Zopp.

What constitutes an ATP player? A player who consistently plays ATP tournaments without achieving any kind of results?

Having had the quickest of looks through the live rankings, I think I see 3 players above Lu in the rankings who have never played in an ATP final. Goffin (21), Tomic (20) and Soeda (28). There is a pretty good chance that both Goffin and Tomic will eventually reach a final so that makes it one player out of 62 that Lu is behind in career terms.

I'm sure I could list all the players who are behind him in the rankings who have made ATP finals, but I hope you get the point by now.
