I'd put Tsonga as all court but maybe that's just wishful thinking from someone who wants Stronga back Nice thread btw, interested what you would categorize Karlovic as even though he's technically not in the top 100. Serve and volley or just serve?

Serve and offensive baseliner. True that he doesn't really have a reliable baseline game but it's what he goes to nowadays if the serve doesn't give him an enough of an advantage.

I'm afraid Tsonga has retreated to the baseline for good. 2008 was another deal, AO was faster, he was younger with bigger balls and so on

I beg to differ with some of the players:

-Monfils is a clown
-Mardy Fish is probably more of serve & volley
-Roddick is an all-courter. He is capable of playing aggressively by coming to the net as well as hitting winners from the back of the court. His skills in every aspect of the game are good and he can show a lot of variety in his shots during matches.
-Berlocq looks like an offensive baseliner to me. He was bashing the ball like Soderling and produced a fairly high amount of winners when I saw him play against Berdych at Miami.

well he scrambles about all the court, but that's hardly the requirements needed.

If by all court you mean the photographers area in the back, then yeah.

Monfils is one of the most defensive players around and Roddick the huge serving defensive baseliner.

If Fish is what's called "serve/volley" these days the ATP is truly dead Also you sound like you're in a time warp from 2003 putting Roddick and "aggressive" in the same sentence

I'd say between now and for example 10 years ago group that declined the most is the serve and volley.

I mean sure, it was always hard to find those kind of player but percentage was maybe 6-8%, not like now. There are even many former top 10 that could be called serve&volley, specially on grass or indoors/fast outdoors.

I kind of miss that style, would be nice to see bit more of them clash with baseliners on hard courts.

And for me hardest to determine which style to put them in would be top 4 players. For me they are all all-court players in a way, with maybe Nadal and Djokovic lacking bit of net skills.

Monfils, as well as Murray are defensive minded players but which under certain circumstances can also turn their game up to the offensive by playing all-court. That little extra is what has kept them in the rankings so high for so long.

But that's not their dominant playing style. Unfortunately for them I should say. (recent results have shown)

I can't really disagree but even Llondra and Mahut don't serve volley every point. Pure serve/volley players who just chip and charge every return and s/v on 2nd serves are dead, in today's game it's a matter of debate who counts.

Also I'd put Nalbandian as all courter and maybe Davydenko but I might be reaching.

Yes, the norms have changed from years ago.

Can't say I can agree about Davydenko and Nalbandian.

Why is Zverev an offensive baseliner?

Probably because he never watched him play.
