This election wasn't fought on the issue of independence. SNP gains were in large part due to Lib-Dem voters abandonning the party because they are in bed with the Tories. Never likely to be a big vote winner in Scotland.

Thanks for that Linda, I am surprised Lib Dems are taking the cost of the austerity cuts. It would make much more sense for them to withdraw their participation in the goverment coalition. If austerity fails, the Torries will blame them squarely claiming that they didn't have the majority to pursue their agenda. If it "succeeds", the Torries will blame them anyway and claim they will perform better alone. Either way there does not seem to be a future for them as part of a goverment coalition with Torries so they should either pursue a more stable coalition with Labor or stay in opposition.
