WE'RE NOT TALKING ACHIEVEMENTS

I don't think there will ever be a player that will make it look as easy as Roger.

I don't think so,Fed's brand of tennis is unique in many ways.

Some people think that Federer invented the beautiful game like some think that Nadal invented topspin.

We will see another great player with a beautiful game.

Yes, I took the quote from a more extensive article where Sampras said many nice things about Novak in this article for the New York Times.

Sampras on federer:

Quote:
“Roger is still very much there and is still hitting the ball fine,” said Sampras, who practiced with Federer this month. “It’s just that guys are getting a little bit better, and I felt this when I was getting older, you might be a little off and those off days you’re not going to win, whereas those off days five years ago, you would win. It’s a different stage, but I don’t see a big drop-off in Roger at all.”

750 million at most.

As for the question at hand, I doubt it. Tennis is changing all the time. It's like saying will we ever see another Borg and yet his style of play wouldn't hold a candle to todays generation. I'm sure in years to come people will look at Federer's game and think the same. So yeah, unless there is someone in the next 20-30 years who play's like him, after that would be very doubtful I'd imagine.

Rios was another insanely talented player who played the game as beautifully as Federer. And Federer himself said he admired Rios' game and emulated him. So in that respect, yeah the future generations will try to replicate, can they do it successfully is the question.

One thing for sure, the balletic quality of his movement and strokes, that is a Federer copyright

Nadal was there since RG 05, Fed had won 4 slams at that point. Won 12 since.

Not untill there is balance, currently it heavily in favour of defense. When they start speeding up some off the courts ,you will see more variety & players with differing styles thriving @ the same time.Like the 80s.

I am talking peak nadal not an 18 year old kid who needed to mature on all surfaces. Fed did not begin his run until 23 !!!

Default Re: Will there be another Roger Federer?

Probably not! Federer started tennis as a Serve and Volley player, and is really the last player to win a major playing that style (Wimb 2003). In that sense, no there probably won't be a dominant S/Ver + Baseliner combo that leads to having a pure allcourt game like Federer. Simply b/c S/V is mostly dead!

Tommy Haas, Fed and maybe Llodra (although his baseline is very limited) and one or two others are probably the last that play that way on the pro tour, even though you can see that guys like Murray are trying to adapt elements of it. However the younger generation didn't grow up playing that way either, which is why you will see the former do things (tricks etc) that you just don't see anymore except for replays on youtube from the 80s and 90s (take eg the headfakes at net).

So while I have no doubt that a better player will eventually emerge than Federer (although probably not in this generation) I don't know if he'll ever utilize that old style. Consider that Federer at times during his career resurrected elements of tennis that had been long forgotten. Like the slice passing shot.. That had been dead since the early 80s! Its just getting too archaic, and shots like that simply aren't taught anymore.

Only thing Nadal matured on other surfaces was his grass movement and positioning on court. His game remains as it was then. Competition got WEAKER which has allowed him to do the career slam.

Nadal's game isn't as reliant on perfect timing and striking like Federer's, so him coming into his 'prime' makes little difference to his defensive-minded game whereas Fed going out of it makes a lot because his timing and speed drop considerably and allow him to be dictated by some players.
