Isn't it just the posts within threads that the mods deem inappropriate that are deleted? That would explain the OP question in this circumstance... happens to me and I'm sure everyone else all the time.

Anyway mods need to relax and take a chill pill.. it's an internet forum.. if you can't handle some of the stuff posted on here then don't visit...

Ok, this is now unreal. Will someone do something? Machiavelli got two sensible threads deleted and now he is banned..... This is just a bit too much.

lol how come did you ban machiavelli for a tribute thread to alessio di mauro? i bet you don't even know who alessio di mauro is, apparently tennis doesn't end after top 5. is this a tennis forum or forum for mods about mods?

this is about as smart as banning fast clay for this sampras thread

he didn't get banned for the Di Mauro thread. A mod removed it, he decided to start a shitty-toned "what happened?" thread. A mod removed that too - note - if you want a response, you might try talking to us in a reasonable tone rather than treating us like dogshit - and then he decided to go the mod bashing route. Then he got banned. It's between him and the mods and we'll pick it up with him when he returns.

So you're not allowed to make a thread about Di Mauro in GM..? Good to know.. any others prohibited too?

Yeah, except nobody said that.

Here's my day so far, on this subject:

I got up, rubbed my eyes, and made some tea.

I logged on to my work machine and my normal pc and saw that this thread had been moved and that Machi had been given a ban for mod bashing.

I checked out the threads Machi started and concluded that the ban was appropriate, if unfortunate - why he didn't just PM us and wait for us to work out what the deal is and come back to him, I don't know, but that was his choice.

I checked out the original thread that was moved, and now I'm trying to establish why it was moved with the other members of the mod team.

When I have that info, the other mods, admins and l will make a decision about whether it stays gone or gets put back. When Machiavelli returns, that will be communicated to him too.

Now, that's what's going on, so have a nice day.

yeah i know what machiavelli said about the moderators but it all started from deleting a thread about di mauro

it's not the first time it happens, not the first time it's been asked what's wrong about starting a light hearted thread about tennis in a tennis forum, and yet again it creates flames for really no reason, forum members are getting upset when a tennis thread is being deleted for the 1000th time and troll wars are left untouched

a mod wouldn't have been called a retard without undertaking a retarded action beforehead, an action that was discussed here about other threads really several times and we're still expecting answers about the comeback of the roasting threads and information what actions would be taken on less popular players threads (seriously, does it pollute the space? otherwise i don't know what the problem is... usually once the player retires the threads are dying... anyone remembers a thread about Adam Chadaj's being hotter than Roddick? it's been a classic for 2-3 years in the past)

this was supposed to be solved several months ago by the way, no wonder members are getting angry

seriously, what is wrong with a thread about noticing a player like di mauro? who is hurt by that? and no, tribute threads don't belong to players forums where nobody goes, maybe because nobody knows about a player like di mauro, but would come across this thread in GM and read with interest

just like amir weintraub's blog not being removed - i think it gives nice perspective to a tennis fan to extend the knowledge

i also think deleting that thread was a retarded action, now you can ban me for a mod bashing as well
It creates flames because a mod took a decision and rather than approaching us in a reasonable way and asking us about it so we can look at it, a user instead decides to throw a hissy fit. Mod decisions are sometimes a judgement call and then we have to discuss among ourselves whether it was right or not. That is still ongoing in this case - partially because we're all in different timezones and have - you know - lives, and it takes time to sort things through.

In the meantime, throwing toys out of the pram and hurling insults around isn't exactly achieving a whole lot except getting banned, and "yeah i know but" isn't an excuse for it. I do not get why people get so HYSTERICAL about this things. One thread moved and it's like crimes against humanity and everyone has to chip in their 2 cents worth in apocalyptic fashion. It's a thread. It got moved. It's being reviewed. It doesn't need DRAMA!!!!!!!

tbh i didn't come to discuss a ban here but the idea of removing these threads (ok, machiavelli ate a ban for calling mod a retard but a week ago fast clay got infracted and in consequence banned FOR starting a tennis thread; IMO it's the 2nd part of the same story)

we've been awaiting decisions regarding the roasting threads and some more light hearted tennis threads for several months, reportedly it is being discussed - for how long yet?

why dont you discuss before and decide whether a thread should be deleted or not?
it's not like it was an insulting thread that needed to be deleted ASAP

No, Nathii, we don't have stories. We can incidents where a mod takes a decision, which has consequences. If you want to weave that all together into a nice story for you and your friends to pitch a hissy fit about, that's your decision, but they are two entirely separate incidents.

Sometimes threads are a judgement call as to whether they're appropriate or not and might get moved, and then that may be reviewed and sometimes that is reversed and sometimes it is not.

Time I'm spending discussing this with you and your friends because of their incessant need to insert themselves into every moderating situation, is time I'm not spending discussing the thread with my peers and reaching a decision. Ditto to do with the roasting threads or other things that might move the forum forward. These things will take as long as they take. We're trying to add more mods so that there's more time for us to move these discussions forward - as it is we end up spending so much time dealing with minor incidents that get turned into a great big fuss.

Sometimes we do discuss mod decisions them beforehand, sometimes we don't. Sometimes things aren't as clear-cut as they might initially look so the discussion follows the action. Sometimes people aren't around to discuss so a decision gets taken and then if need be, reviewed later. The point is, either way, there's no need for everyone to get themselves into fits about it.
