So Djokovic 2 AO titles are in harder more competitive times with FEDAL here, Djokovic also had more Master 1000 titles -Hewitt was in 7 finals and won 2xIW- only 1 Master tournament in whole career. and Djokovic already at his age 23 was in 11 finals and won 5 of them.. So it is close but every tournament and with every bigger succes will Novak getting the edge over Hewitt.

Good post! On paper, Hewitt's record is superior but I do think he was a bit lucky with his competition. Even so, I would give Hewitt a very slight edge today.

Both 2 slams.
Djokovic never been number one, but im sure thats coming, and a lengthy stint.
Both won the TMC/WTF.
Defending titles was neithers strong point.
Both made similar number of GS finals.
Both have been denied at slams by Federer heaps in early stages and in finals.
Both have been denied of furthering slam runs by Rafael.
This should be tight.
At this point id give the slightest tiniest edge to Hewitt, but I think its inevitable Djoker will eclipse Hewitt, and he may not have to win another slam to do so.
Discuss.
Novaks biggest scalp is probably that he has been to the semis or better of all grand slams.

nice comparison. I would just add to this that Hewitt was playing in a different generation than Djoker. Hewitt faced Roddick and Federer, but he won the slams before Federer became the GOAT and mastered his game. Djokovic by contrast must face a new breed: Federer (obviously), Nadal, Murray (get your first serve in please!!! london needs u), Soderling, Delpo (if he can get back into form) and many other youngins like this new kid Dolgopolov. Therefore I'd say Djoker is well in advance considering the oppenents.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Novak is much better player,Lleyton with Ferrero is worst number one in history,it was the worst tennis era,a joke
He is the biggest surprise of the 2010,guy lost 15 consecutive times from Federer, enough said, joke, very bad tennis years,Lleyton just profit from that...
In that time Novak would won 7-8 Slams!!!

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Wish I could change my answer to Djokovic
Djokovic's 2008 is better than both years when Hewitt was No. 1.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Hewitt by far, World's no. 1 for 80 weeks and the fact he won two different slams, no question in my view.
This will change though, Djokovic will win another slam and should get a stint at No.1 sometime in the near future.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
What a load of bollocks in this thread!
We're talking achievements, right? The FACTS are that Hewitt has 2 slams at different venues, Djokovic at 1. Hewitt has 2 Davis Cups, Djoker 1. Hewitt has 80 weeks at No. 1, Djoker a big fat ZERO. Hewitt has 28 titles, Djokovic 19. In factual terms, Djokovic has clearly NOT eclipsed Hewitt. He is in FACT a long way off. He may well go on to surpass Hewitt's achievements. He may not. He might fall under a bus tomorrow. Who knows? I expect he'll win a couple more slams; I doubt he'll spend 80 weeks at No. 1. But I don't know, & neither does anybody else.
As for the quality of competition they have faced, that is a matter of OPINION. Both have had to compete in open tournaments against the best players in the world. It COULD be that the players Hewitt faced were inferior to the players Djoker is facing, or it could be they were all so good nobody could dominate. There is no way of knowing for certain.
My own opinion is that Djokovic is a more talented player than Hewitt, but talent does not guarantee achievement. Look at Nalbandian.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Hewitt still has an edge because of the 80 weeks at No. 1 as well as winning the 2 most prestigious slams: Wimbledon and USO.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Nole will win at least couple of more slams. Maybe more if he improves even more. It is possible.

Re: Poll: Has Djokovic eclipsed Hewitt yet?
Djokovic's 2008:
Grand Slams: 1 (Australian Open)
Masters Titles: 2 (Indian Wells & Rome)
Masters Finals: 1 (Cincinnati)
*Won Tour Finals & Bronze Olympic medal
-------------------------
Hewitt's 2001 (finished No. 1):
Grand Slams: 1 (U.S. Open)
Masters Titles: 0
Masters Finals: 0
*Won Tour Finals
Hewitt's 2002 (finished No. 1):
Grand Slams: 1 (Wimbledon)
Masters Titles: 1 (Indian Wells)
Masters Finals: 2 (Cincinnati & Paris)
*Won Tour Finals
In this era, achieving just a bit more than what Hewitt achieved only gets you a No. 3. It was obviously a lot easier to get a No. 1 rank back then.
