Oh too bad really.
I wonder what happened to him.
Even if the young player could be that good, the score doesn't look right to me.

Sad really, very sad but let's be positive that he recovers well and stronger. The season just begins. Hopefully many more interesting matches await him and us! Vamos, David!

David Nalbandian - 20.01.11
Thursday, 20 January, 2011

Start of Transcribed Interview
Q. How much did the first round match against Lleyton Hewitt take out of you?
DAVID NALBANDIAN: A lot. Of course, today I was like empty, you know? Didn't feel good. Is tough, very tough.

Q. Was it an injury or just tiredness?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Everything. Nothing specific. Like empty, you know? I toss a ball for the serve and everything was moving around. It's tough playing like that.

Call the doctor. Told me that dangerous playing like that. That's why I retired.

Q. What about emotionally? You and Lleyton are great rivals, such a big match. Did you lack motivation coming into this match?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: It's completely different. Of course, it's better if you won. But sometimes is difficult. Of course, playing Lleyton on center court with all the crowd, it's a different motivations. But this tournament, all matches are very important, as well.

But today I try, but I couldn't.

Q. Did you feel like that right from the start?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: I feel a little better in the beginning. But every game getting little worse. So worser and worse. Not much to do really.

Q. What about your opponent, what do you make of him and his future?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Well, he obviously is a good player. Unfortunately, I couldn't effort him very much. But looks like he's going to be a good one.

Q. How long do you think it's going to take you to be at the same fitness level as you were before?

DAVID NALBANDIAN: Well, you never know. Matches are matches. Sometimes you play a short match but with a lot of stress on it, with a lot of pressure. That sometimes is worse than playing four hours. You never know.

But I think during the year I'm going to be better.

If doctor said it was dangerous to play so he was right to retire. Poor David, he had the worst draw possible. Hewitt in Australia trashed his chances to go deep
Next stop Santiago

I frankly didn't expect this. Not against a relative newcomer. Never mind. To move on.

Good luck for the next tournament, fighter!

There was one on the house-front immediately opposite.BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU, the caption said, while the dark eyes looked deep into Winston's own. Down at street level another poster, torn at one corner, flapped fitfully in the wind, alternately covering and uncovering the single word INGSOC. (1.1.4)

Official site of David Nalbandian, translation from Spanish

The Warrior Retreat

When that historic debut victory was still dormant and did all the motherland thrill sport, David faced their second match of the Australia Open to Richard Berankis. Feeling a great physical, King decided to retire the first Grand Slam of the year and yield the most important Lithuanian triumph of her tennis career.

Early Thursday had a great expectation surrounding the new collation of David. Argentina and the world were awaiting the development of the game was going to star Lleyton Hewitt's executioner. The other side was Berankis, but the real battle rival was that historic 5-hour debut, which prevented David to be the usual.

Determined to take the wear brought David, Berankis was found with a 6-1, 6-0 in the first two sets. Clearly exhausted, David never found physical responses. In the third set, he fell 2-0, requested medical assistance and decided to get off the ground very tired. Australia ran out of the hero of the first round.

I was at the match between David and Berankis last night.

It was pretty obvious to me at the start that David was not comfortable. When he tossed his serve, he seemed to look a bit confused. I thought it was because it was nearly sunset and the angle of the sun was really horrible for the player serving. Then I noticed David's serves averaged 150kph and he went to the net almost every second point. At the second set, he wan't even running when the ball is over half a court away. He also wasn't bending his legs when the ball was low. By the end of the 2nd set, I actually got up from my seat because I thought he was going to retire. He called for the trainer and it looked like he was pointing to the sky and making spinning gestures.

Poor David. He looked absolutely heartbroken when he walked off the court. Many of clapped when he left to appreciate his efforts. I hope he can recover well. His match against Hewitt was one of the most exciting matches I've seen in a loooong time. From such a high to a horribly disappointing low.
