Diez is seeded 1 in a futures in Brazil while Chjovka is seeded 3 in Sweden futures.

I didn't watch his match at the Davis Cup last year so I can't tell you much. But what I can tell you is that it is a very short week for Canadian tennis this week. The only players left are Erik, Steven and Pavel, and I don't really see Pavel lasting that long. I do believe that Erik and Steven can have decent runs. Erik should at least make the Finals and Steven could win the whole thing or lose first round (really he should win it though)

Diez into the second round. He plays like a typical clay courter (based on seeing two sets of his DC play last year)

Finally good to see Nguyen in a qualifying draw where he didn't pull out at the last second. I don't necessarily see him qualifying because he really hasn't progressed in the past year and was cut by the NTC, but one match-up that looks interesting is if he gets to play Christian Harrison. They were both promissing young players a few years ago but seem to have lost their way (I believe Harrison was injured or something). I don't think that any of us really saw Edward regressing the way he has. Do you guys have any opinions as to what might have happened? Lack of interest? His game is not maturing enough?

Perhaps distractions away from the court. I've never seen him play, but maybe he had a very junior game that doesn't translate to higher levels.

I am wondering whether Nguyen is training down in the US. He hasn't shown up at any events in Canada this year, as far as I can see. And doesn't even partner with Canadian boys in doubles.

It is kind of discouraging to see how boys he beat when he was 13-14, like Liam Broady or Mitchell Krueger, are advancing by leaps and bounds, while he is stuck nowhere. (Christian Harrison BTW was injured for a very long time, so it is quite understandable that he is not as advanced).

Just goes to show that you might as well enjoy the success while you have it, as it won't necessarily continue.

Ya I think Broady is like ranked in the 700's already.

Ya Broady has been in futures semi-finals. He'll probably get some wildcards too because of it. Broady's an interesting case, because he's advanced faster than all of the kids who get funding from the British TA, like Golding, Morgan, Hewitt and Marsalek.

And there's players like Quinzi (96) who's qualified into Futures, and Milojevic (95) who's played in 250 qualifying.

Nguyen got in the third round of the qualifying draw, winning both his matches 3 and 0.
He then got double-baggeled by Gabriel Moraru (this guy was in the 200s a few years back, if I'm right, but I'd expect Nguyen to put up at least a little resistance...)
