Re: Advancing at the Australian Fair 2011!
I haven't played any of the previous ones but I might get this one since Gilles is in it.
I'm playing the flash tennis game on robinvanpersienews.blogspot atm, the keyboard operations are too darn difficult, the only points I have won so far are the opponent's faults.

I'm not a Nadal fan per se (at least not at the Nadaltard level), even if I share the common opinion of Fed with them. I used to be a big Fed fan and I was cheering for him in most of the slams until after he won RG. I cheered for him for RG because however much I dislike his arrogance, I still think he is deserving to be up there as the greatest of all time and he can only be that if he won all 4 slams. So I wanted that for him. I respect him very much for his achievement but I despise him for his lack of respect for most of the players out there that he doesn't deem elite enough for his taste. That's all.

It's pretty much what all non-Fed fans think of him If the crying through the opponents winning speeches doesn't do it then the embroidered jackets and gold manbags will

The most hurtful thing about this loss probably was it was against Olderer. If it had been Nadal I wouldn't be as .

Take a very special performance to push Fed to the limit after Fed came out of the gate playing like god for 2 sets.

Yeah but (a) Nalbandian lost the first two sets in tiebreaks, whereas Federer won the first two sets comfortably (with two breaks more than Gilles in each set) and (b) it wasn't in a major.

Wasn't Delpo 2 sets down to him in the US open final?

True. Plus Fed had some ready-made excuses for that match, sth like he came back from some injury and haven't play for a little while eventhough he still comfortably beat everyone else to the final to meet Nalby. While Nalby got called from off-season vacation to ditch his fishing trip to show up as an alternate and almost has to play with his fishing gear and still beat everyone and Fed .
But seriously, I'm impressed that after 2 sets of beatdown and Gilles didn't get down on himself and then he brought out his good form. I really think his fight is definitely one of the best out there.

Re: Advancing at the Australian Fair 2011!
The only other comeback players in slams against Federer are:
vs. Haas AO 2006: 6-4, 6-0, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2
vs. Malisse Wimbledon 2001: 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3
vs. Michel Kratochvil RG 2000: 7-6(5), 6-4, 2-6, 6-7(4), 8-6
(Haas is the only one to do it since Federer started winning majors.)
So Gilles is only the second player since Fed started winning slams to extend Fed to 5 sets after losing the first 2 sets.

Re: Advancing at the Australian Fair 2011!
Weird, I thought I posted this an hr ago. Did it get deleted (for no good reason), or I was just hallucinating? Well, probably the latter, head spins a little today after pulling an all niter, my oldie self is not good at handling no sleep.
So it was what I was trying to post:
http://blogs.tennis.com/thewrap/2011...ter-punch.html
I like Steve Tignor's writing, not because he wrote good stuffs about Gilles, but because he is neutral, observant and knowledgeable.

Re: Advancing at the Australian Fair 2011!
Gilles is out of the Aussie Open. He and Vasselin lost their doubles in 2 sets. . Not sad about the doubles, just sad that he's going home so early. But a pretty good tournament nonetheless despite the early round sucky draw thing.

Re: Advancing at the Australian Fair 2011!
He didn't deserve such early exits.
He won't be complaining though. I think his match VS Roger will give him a lot of belief for the tournaments to come.
