Yes, it's been below zero temperature for 3 weeks and we've had lots of snow in that time and it hasn't melted. Now it's just -3 so a bit is starting to melt and then we have ice so it's even worse

If we assume a closed system it is pretty straight forward. The energy does not change due to energy conservation, the entropy is increased.

What is assumed in my problem is, that it is a "normal" living room. You can assume an electric heater that is driven by an outside source. The room itself is not perfectly closed just like your living room is (likely) not a perfectly closed system.

no real system is perfectly closed but for modelling purposes you have to make some simplifications or you'll never be able to do the math
