Looking forward to the clay season but I'm surprised we haven't heard if he's playing DC yet.

Anything less than approaching (and if possible reaching) the TOP 10 in the european clay tour (3 masters plus RG) will be a huge disappointment IMHO.

Right know Tsonga is the #11th with 2615 points (Dimitrov with 2130) and he's defending 1270 points in the clay season (Dimitrov is defending 405), so it's definetely up for grabs.

He needs to defend the QF in Monte Carlo, and he can earn points in Madrid and Rome. She should play Barcelona maybe or any other tournament.

Well, he's playing only the 3 masters and Roland Garros. Unless some late wildcard, he's not playing neither Barcelona nor any of the 250's events.

Playing Greece on Davis Cup will be nothing more than practice and will be kinda sad to see him reach his ATP's 100th win against a player ranked around #500.

Default Re: Clay season - preparing for RG

Probably a bad choice for the rhytm, not for the points.

Any top 30 player (assuming this top 30 decides to play Monte Carlo, who is not mandatory), can count only 5 more minor tournaments (plus the 4 GS and 9 masters). Grigor already had titles in Stockholm and Acapulco and 3 other tournaments with 90 points.

So ranking wise, he would have to reach final of a 250 or semifinal of a 500 to improve that. Well, arguably an ATP 500 on Spain (Nadal, Ferrer, many other spaniards) is almost as tough as a M1000 on clay. So the week after Monte Carlo is probably a better week for training anyway.

But rhythm wise, well, I'm not so sure. There is a 2 week interval between Monte Carlo and Madrid I guess.

Maybe now he lost early in Miami, he can ask for a WC in Casablanca, that would be nice ranking wise (not great field there) + rhytm wise (the week prior to Monte Carlo).

However, I think this is unlikely given the current season under Rasheed's belt, which looks like focuses in much more training/preparation and selects less tournaments than most players.

I guess he'll play much less 250/500 tournaments until the end of the season than in the other years. My picks would be Queens (preparation for Wimbledon), Washington (preparation for US Series' Masters), Tokyo/Pequim (preparation for Shangai) and Stockholm (defending champ). Probably Basel (he's on Fed agency) and maybe Bastad (if he plays bad in Wimbledon).

Why? A win is a win so who cares who it is against?

It doesn't matter against who he will score his 100th win. I mean even in Monte Carlo he can face some local WC in the first round, so it's not a big deal.

I am also exited about the clay season, especially after last year performance. I expect deep run in Madrid- why not semi-final or final? And my dream is to beat Nadal at RG (I will not reject a win on the other tournies though .

Granollers R1, Nieminen/Q R2, Ferrer R3 and Rafa in QF.
That's difficult draw for clay courts...even his first match sounds very tricky but nothing will be easy from now on for him...if he wants to keep progressing.
So lets bring it on, Grisha

Full of clay specialists, that section. Still, I think we can dream of another QF and then, who knows...
