Laws change, they aren't representative of cheating. The spirit of the law is what needs to be upheld; preventing cheating and unfair advantages over your opponents -- doing a line of coke so you can get some Miami poontang qualifies as neither.

Today, it should be dealt with straight away.

Any illegal drugs should result in a ban straight away, no matter how the drug is taken, unless of course they need a drug to help a condition they have which is very unlikely.

Martina Hingis was pretty much dragged through dirt over cocaine scandal. I don't get why Gasquet escaped scot-free. He should have been banned from tennis instead of getting a slap on the wrist. No one would miss him anyway.

That much is true -- there's a lot of hypocrisy in the difference between Gasquet's and Hingis's punishments. (Though I always wondered if she was punished extra for insolence and for picking up her violation at -- gasp -- Wimbledon.)
