All right, to put the car crash rumor to rest:

Ailing Kratochvil Pulls Out of Swiss Indoors
Wed Oct 23, 8:49 AM ET

BASEL, Switzerland (Reuters) - Switzerland's Michel Kratochvil has been forced to withdraw from the Swiss Indoors event on Wednesday after suffering from tonsillitis.

"I did not feel well but everything got much worse during the night. I was shaking and I couldn't sleep," said Kratochvil, who is also doubtful for next week's Paris Masters.

"I have a fever and my throat is swollen. It is such a pity as I was really looking forward to this match."

A lucky loser, Dutchman Martin Verkerk, replaces Kratochvil in the draw. Verkerk will meet third seed and local favorite Roger Federer in the opening round on Wednesday.

Federer, runner-up for the last two years, is keen to become the first Swiss to win the tournament since Jakob Hlasek in 1991.

Rosset named Swiss Davis Cup captain

The veteran Marc Rosset was confirmed on Wednesday as the captain of Switzerland's Davis Cup team. The announcement came after Rosset's 7-6 7-6 defeat by second-seeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, in the Basel indoor tournament.

No announcement was made concerning the coach for the Davis Cup team.

The team has been without a coach since the death of Australian Peter Carter in a road accident in South Africa earlier this year.

Bits & pieces about our boys today

Juan Carlos Ferrero held on for a straight sets victory, but not before going the distance in each set with Swiss wild card Marc Rosset, 7-6(11), 7-6(4). Rosset held four set points in the first set, but didn't have enough to take down Ferrero, who is currently in 4th position in the ATP Champions Race.

Roger Federer advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against lucky loser Martin Verkerk. Michel Kratochvil, who was scheduled to face Federer in the first round, pulled out of singles and doubles with tonsillitis and a fever. He was be replaced by lucky loser Martin Verkerk from The Netherlands. In doubles, Kratochvil and partner Alex Corretja were replaced by Swiss team Yves Allegro and Marco Chiudinelli.

What the Players Said:
Kratochvil: "Everything got worse last night. I was shaking and I wasn't able to sleep. I have a fever and my throat is swollen. It's a pity because I was really looking forward to this match. It would have been a special match against Roger (Federer) here in Switzerland. There would have been a lot of emotions and fire on the court."

"My results haven't been that great the last couple of months, I wanted to end the year on a positive note. Now I don't even know if I will be able to play next week in Paris."

Hi Hackie!

Is Youzhny not playing Paris? He didn't make it? Too bad!

BTW you can post my Micha pic on your site if you like -- it already has my copyright on it.

So Micha's better? He's playing Hrbaty -- both are friends of Rogi.

Hey, RogiFan!

Thanks for the use of the pic, I might just take you up on that

Youzhny hasn't been playing ANY TMSes this year! I don't know why and until you said something, didn't realize he wasn't in the draw

I hope Micha is feeling better. Much as I like my current location, I do want him to be able to play. I guess I have to share him with the rest of the world again
