2010 Melbourne Cup
Hoping it pours down with rain overnight and then tomorrow. Harris Tweed is respectable odds. He'll run a big race. Him and Zipping I think will feature at the business end. May not win, but worth a place chance.
Can So You Think last the distance? Will Shocking overcome Barrier four? What about the international horses like Bauer who have been quiet?
Americain or Descarado?
I have been on Master O'Reilly the last few years but wont' be touching him this time around. Although, now that I am not going to touch him, what is the bet he wins.
I'll have my selections tomorrow but at the moment E/W on Harris Tweed is looking sweet.

Re: 2010 Melbourne Cup
I'm putting on another boxed trifecta. I can afford it.
Still half the div, but more runners.
Naturally, I hope like hell half the trifecta is more than my stake in this one, which works out to be 2,040. And hope that SYT gets rolled.
1, 3, 4, 5-8, 11-16, 19, 20, 22, 24
Therefore, Campanologist, Tokai Trick, Buccelleti, Zavite, Red Ruler, Once Were Wild better not fuck me over or I'll be down 2500 just on a trifecta alone.
I was going to take out Illustrious Blue, but due to the jockey on it, I'm going to include it.
Naturally, if the other tri gets up, I will be even happier.
A tri paying over 6000, I'll be happy with. Just need someone to poison SYT so it can't run a good race.

Re: 2010 Melbourne Cup
I'm throwing money on Shocking to win.
With how the track is running, you will be a fool not to back Shocking.

Re: 2010 Melbourne Cup
I have Shoot Out at 29's last night and Holberg on the Tab where it is still paying around the 39 mark although surely it will firm before the race. Unfortunately I can't access any of the online bookmakers.
Godolphin seem pretty keen on Holberg and have a pretty good record over here without winning a Melbourne Cup. Has reportedly settled in very well and they were going to withdraw Campanologist if Holberg was going to miss getting into the field by one place. I don't think Dettori would be wasting hard to ride Holberg if he didn't give it a huge hope. His form overseas lines up very well when compared to the other Europeans as well.
Shoot Out's odds that were being offered before today baffled me. The horse has been running like a stayer since they changed their goal from the Cox Plate to the Melbourne Cup. His weight for age form stacks up extremely well from this campaign with his runs being just as good as Shocking from a Melbourne Cup perspective and he won the AJC Derby last season very impressively beating Descarado on it's home track and Monaco Consul. The only thing that concerns me is he has been up a long time this preparation but his runs suggest he should relish the step up in distance, Corey Brown has had a brilliant record in this race in the past few years and the stable have been very confident of him doing well in this race for a long time.
So You Think is a big chance but represents no value in my opinion. He has never raced past 2040m and this race on paper has at least six horses that could lead so there will be alot of pace. His run last Saturday suggested that he could run longer but it was run at a slow pace and if you look at his Cox Plate run he seemed to fade a little bit near the finish line.

Looks like Bolar stands to lose a lot of money. Good for him.

Re: 2010 Melbourne Cup
It used to be good about 15 years ago, now it's attracted young dickheads that get drunk and start fights. Its just an excuse to drink.
