I think they are essential in every day life. Its important to let each toe be independent and not think they are just part of the foot. They also help the phalanges in the toe stay strong so you don't have to drink so much milk every day and thus saving money cos you are not spending it all on calcium.
Do you have a set way you dress? Like do you put a shirt or pants on first?

i never read the novels but the films within themselves were above average at best.
