Great news now that the two seeds in his quarter have lost. He plays a qualifier, and hopefully he can win that match, then plays Sant'anna next. A winnable first and second round for him, and then he has a fair chance to reach semis as well. Hope he can do it!

With the 15pts he has already he'll move up to around 461, and if he does get to into the semi-finals he'll be around 425.

I imagine he'll pick up points in the other 2 Brazilian Challengers, and hopefully he'll head to Europe after, and try to get into Roland Garros qualifying.

Tiago in the semis!!! 6-4 3-6 7-6 over Clezar. What a great victory!

In the 3rd set, Clezar broke for 6-5, but Tiago broke back immediately and then won the tiebreak.

Tiago has played so solid this week

I think he might've lost this, but he's been very good mentally this week, he saved a lot of break points and he's done a great job of keeping it together when he gets broken, like today, he couldn't convert two BPs at 4-3* and then gets broken at *5-5, but instead of just collapsing, he fights back, breaks at love and wins the TB. Same with Sant'anna match, Bruno served for the set but Tiago is just too good on hard courts. On clay, the other boys might have an advantage, but Tiago is too good here

Shortly after securing a historic result, Fernandes announced that fatigue and back pain forced him to give up playing the final of Pernambuco Brazil Open Series, which was scheduled for 19:30 against the Japanese Tatsuma Ito.

The decision was taken by coach Larri Passos. He had tried to change the final to Monday, which was not possible due to the lineup of players, and Fernandes did not play the final in order to be preserved physically.

With the 48 points scored at this week's tournament, Fernandes rises from 509° to around 380° in the rankings. He won the right to compete in the challenger of Blumenau, where he will debut on Tuesday against the 6th seed Leonardo Mayer.

At number 166 in the rankings, Ito can celebrate not only the title and prize of $ 5000, but also an invitation to compete in the main draw of the Brazil Open in 2012.

He was too physically exhausted to play the final but reaching the final is still impressive and he will reach a career high in the 380s now!
