Default Re: Richie's Sizzlin' Summer Season 2010 (Hamburg)

No, he won't play Hamburg, he'll be back in Gstaad. There's a long article about him in L'Equipe today, he prefers to have two full weeks of training:
Quote:

DOMINIQUE BONNOT
A summary:
He was practicing yesterday with Deblicker and Cassaigne on an indoors clay court in RG. The journalist asks Richard why indoors and he answers: "because it's raining!" Actually, the weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday in Paris, they had only booked an indoors court in case it would have rained (= even in French, Richard sometimes gives weird answers.)
He was supposed to practice with Gaël, but Gaël changed his mind because he was too tired, hence the training with Cassaigne who belongs to the Lagardère Group.
He has been out for one full month now because of the back injury. He says he was in so much pain that he couldn't even hold his racquet. He practiced a little on Sunday with Deblicker and yesterday was the first time he was hitting with a sparring-partner.
He won't go to Hamburg because it would be too short. He prefers to take two weeks to practice well and not be in pain at all anymore. The injury has been a "real pain" because it was hurting even in everyday's life. It's a relapse of the 16 mm tear he had in Australia. The tear opened up again during the Queen's and it takes time to heal up. Too bad, but he hasn't forgotten how he was playing in Bordeaux, Nice and RG, it's still very vivid in his mind, he knows this feeling will come back. The journalist says he's all smile and looking full of energy.
He was hoping to have recovered for the Davis Cup, he tried to resume the training on the 27th of June, but it was impossible for him to play. He waited one more week, tried again with Deblicker on last Monday, but he was still in pain.
But yesterday he was feeling fine after a footing and a longer warm-up.
The injury is hampering him on serve and for his BH mostly. As he can't rely on his FH to win matches, he has to be patient. He doesn't want to force and reinjure himself. The goal is to be completely painfree by the time of the USO.
Deblicker says there's nothing sure yet, they will deal with the situation on a day-to-day-basis, but the schedule so far is: Gstaad, Toronto, Cincy, New Haven. Markus will be back for the North American events - or maybe in Gstaad already, but that's not sure yet.
And then Richard talks about the DC tie, he sounds very excited about it, especially since the SF might take place in Montpellier (in the South of France). He really looks very eager to be back on the court. "Right now I'm just at 70% of my abilities, but I hope to be back to 100% very soon."

Thanks.

I was hoping he would be back for Hamburg but another week's training would be good for him and be ready for Gsttad.

Nice to see him playing New Haven aswell, the Entry List comes out today.

Allez Gasquet!

Thanks for the article, Truc. News has been a long time coming. It has been difficult, I'm sure, for all of us, but especially for him. I do hope he is well, refreshed and ready to go again. Tennis isn't the same without him.

kind of bothers me that he hopes he is free of pain by the USO.

Source: http://www.welovetennis.fr/richard-g...rkus-de-retour

nothing special, it only says that Markus has joined him yesterday for practise in Roland Garros. But as we have been so short of news recently, it is good to hear something. And it also gives me hope that he will really be back next week.

Wow. Just realised I'm quite spoilt for choice for the next few months - Davis Cup (at least once), Metz, Montpellier and Bercy. Tempted to go for all but must resist Will try to attend Bercy at the very least
