Javier MARTI (ESP) (2) defeated Oscar SABATE-BRETOS (ESP) 6-0 1-0 Retired
Not a very nice way to win a match, but important thing is Javi advanced to the final. He'll play Alessandro Giannessi, the 6th seed. They already played each other about two months ago, Javi won that match 6-4 5-7 6-3, and I believe he can win again. Good luck Javi!!
I agree, he just cruised through this futures tournament, only dropped 7 games in 4 matches. He'll probably start next year playing futures, just because there's no European challengers in the first few weeks in January.
Javi is playing a Challenger tournament in Argentina next week. He's got a decent First round draw against another teen Facundo Arguello. Second round will be his first real test to see if he can move up in the tennis world. Most likely he'll be playing 6th Seed, Ranked 181 Junquiera, which, if this kid is the real deal he should be able to beat, but he might not be there yet.
Interesting first round match. Both Javi and Arguello are 18, both have won three Futures titles this year, and they are close to each other in the rankings (Arguello #326, Marti #353). But Arguello had better results at Challengers, he even played one final (Belo Horizonte-2). I think they both have real chances to win, but I hope it would be Javi who wins it in the end. Good luck!
There's a livestream for this particular challenger, so those of us that missed Marti in Valencia will most likely get to seem him play there. All singles are being played on Central Court today, so it will probably be the same tomorrow, and Central Court is the one being streamed.
