In L'Equipe today:

Quote:

Default Re: 2010 Clay Season

Even though he was playing a Spaniard, there were a lot of "Vas-y Chardy!" because the French school looks onto the tournament venue.
Montanes probably was a bit tired after MC, but Jérémy also was carrying his own burden: an ugly defeat to Golubev last week. He owed us a better display. Relying on his usual weapons (70% points won on his first serve and 71% on his 2nd serve, a lot of FH winners), he also added a few new things, like an ability to maintain longer rallies with "neutralization shots" which allow him to attack in better conditions then. Fontang stresses he needs to control the game better before he can unleash his big groundstrokes.
He's been disappointing since the end of last year: "My back seized up three times, my right wrist was hurting, I caught a virus in Melbourne and in Memphis I had a stomach bug", he says in his defence. But he also admits it: "It's true, I haven't lived up to the expectations, beginning with mine".
Fontang thinks he had started to improve again in the US already and the misfiring of Monte-Carlo is only due to a "too short preparation". Jim always struggles with the transition from hardcourt to clay. After MC he went to Montpellier to see his mental coach, Hervet, who helped him to have a less negative state of mind.
Fontang says that they won't change the course, they keep working the same way and the goal remains to get closer to the top 10. Jim: "I've gotten that I need to vary more. Against a good player I need to play deeper shots, with more topspin, in a very definite part of the court, if I want to be able to attack properly."
"I too would love to live up to people's expectations. It's nicer than being obscure."

Are they writing about him in Equipe after every match?!

Lost first set against Gulbis now. Wins 2 out of 13 points on 2nd serve, so I guess he is spreading UEs again

I'm getting so tired of this. Just when you think he has got it back on track, he gets hammered back time after time...

Last time Zaz was because L'Equipe was not giving enough news about Jérémy! So here you go.
But there aren't that many articles about him (by the standards of L'Equipe), it's been rather quiet about him lately. Maybe that's why he says at the end he doesn't like being in the background.

He says in L'Equipe that a footfault called against him at 4-3 in the 1st set made him completely lose his focus and he didn't manage to refocus on the match. But he still has the feeling to be on the right track, it's not like he was expecting to win Barcelona anyway after the terrible performance in MC.

Okay, but Gulbis is still a very beatable player. Hope he gets a good draw for a change in Rome.

Takes the first set 6-4! Should have been so much easier though, 1/7 in BPs, he had them in like 4 of Tipsy's service games!

Wel, Tipsy is very inconsistent, and Djokovic is rubbish right now... Not sure if Jeremy would have the composureto beat a bad Djokovic but a lot of other seeds would have been harder draws.

Tipsa was easy yeah, coming back from injury, but Djokovic is one of the worst guys you can get. Maybe Nadal, Ferrer(o) and Federer are worse, but all other seeds would have been easier. Anyway 45 points are nice, next week has to be his week.
