Im right handed and I play my forehand like a lefty plays a DH backhand.... I cannot hit a one handed forehand with any variety for some reason.

I think pro's that have a double handed forehand don't change the order of their hands between strokes (assuming their backhand is also a double hander). Like Santoro:

This obviously saves them time switching grips in rallies/ return of serve. However, in less elite play, some players switch the order of their hands so they are hitting a double handed backhand on both sides.

Or, some even use a two handed racquet!

I'm the same, feels so much comfortable for some reason, just can't get much control out of the one hander, can rip a winner with one shot and the next 3 will hit the back fence. Although, I had a one handed backhand for many years, change in the last 6 months to the two handed backhand without changing my hands so right hand is always on top even though I'm right handed.

So you serve right handed then slide your right hand to the top of the handle?

Yeah, its a pretty weird way to play but Ive gotten so used to it I cant imagine playing any other way. I can do anything with my forehand and my backhand is massive so I dont see why I'd need to change it.

To the person above, its what I do, unless Im serve and volleying of course.

Yep, as the other guy said unless I'm at the net, where I go back to a convential style, I will always have the right hand on top. It actually feels natural to me.

It's better than having what i used to have, a two handed forehand with the right on top and then changing my hands around for a one handed backhand, in the end I ended up slciing way too often and my backhand was just getting picked on way too easily. Thinking about it now I wish I had gone with two hands on both sides when i started, as it's all about getting consistancy with the backhand which is very slowly coming along.

Chiakifug, do you hit your forehand very flat as well? Don't tend to put that much topspin on the ball i find. Having said that I have always felt comfortable with the shot, go for mys hots when I want to etc. Just an absolute killer playing big servers, reach is a problem.

Depends, if Im going for a big shot I hit it flat, for example if they ever hit cross court and give me an angle then Ill hit it very flat cross court back or if they give a short bouncing ball back. I put topspin on it at times during rallies, especially returning low balls and to drag them out of position. My forehand DTL is very flat. I used to play completely flat but I was so inconsistent changed my style. I hit less winners but way less UEs now.

I love playing big servers though, I always see it as a challenge. I sort my problem with reach by just returning one handed at times, but if the ball is in double handed range Ill just use that.

I would slice low and see how well they get down for it, like a backhand really.
