Fair enough. I don't think it is a regional thing as much as a class thing (lower middle?). I currently live in Sussex, with my background in Surrey/Middlesex just outside London. I have heard it used in Scotland.

I don't think it's a good idea, and I wouldn't use it myself (in either context, good or bad), but in the interests of general knowledge I saw no harm in mentioning it. Perhaps that was a mistake.
