ADRIÁN GARCÍA DERROTA A UN TOP 50 Y SE METE EN SEMIS DE POLONIA

El penquista consiguió el segundo mejor triunfo de su trayectoria tras vencer en tres mangas al francés Fabrice Santoro (49), que era el primer sembrado del torneo. Ahora buscará su paso a la final ante un rival bastante más accesible.


POZNAN, julio 29.- El tenista nacional Adrián García (158) avanzó a las semifinales del challenger de Poznan, Polonia, tras vencer por 6-3, 3-6 y 6-3 al francés Fabrice Santoro (49).

La cuarta raqueta chilena, de esta forma, logró el segundo mejor triunfo de su carrera, y de paso, superó al jugador mejor sembrado del certamen.

En el primer set el penquista se vio sólido e hizo verse mal al ex 17 del mundo, quien terminó entregando la manga.

Pero el galo no se dejó intimidar y respondió con la misma moneda: 6-3 de vuelta. De esta forma el tenista europeo, que tiene como particularidad pegar con ambas manos tanto el revés como el derecho, demostró su experiencia.

En el tercer set García estuvo intratable. El envión le duró hasta el 5-0, pero aparecieron los fantasmas nuevamente y sufrió tres puntos en contra.

Sin embargo la convicción del oriundo de Concepción fue superior al ranking y abrochó el último capítulo por 6-3.

Ahora el chileno jugará ante el ganador del duelo entre el francés Gilles Simon (125) y el polaco Adam Chadaj (237).

El penquista no pudo tomar el control del partido e imponer sus términos en la arcilla polaca y no pudo mostrar el sólido tenis que desplegó durante la semana, al encontrarse con un jugador que cometió pocos errores y exhibió un alto porcentaje de primeros servicios.


POZNAN Julio 31.- El tenista chileno Adrián García (158º de la ATP) cayó en la final del challenger de Poznan, en Polonia, ante el ruso Teimuraz Gabashvili (200º), con parciales de 4-6 y 2-6.

El penquista no pudo tomar el control del partido e imponer sus términos en la arcilla polaca y no pudo mostrar el sólido tenis que desplegó durante la semana, al encontrarse con un jugador que cometió pocos errores y exhibió un alto porcentaje de primeros servicios.

García jugaba la octava final de su carrera y buscaba su cuarto título en individuales, cosa que finalmente no llegó. La cuarta raqueta nacional ha levantado la copa de campeón en Ciudad de México (2003), Zagreb (2004) y Ettlingen (2005).

A pesar de ello, el pupilo de Leonardo Zuleta superó en el actual torneo al ´top-50´ y primer favorito, el francés Fabrice Santoro, y con los puntos que capturó volverá a aparecer el lunes como número tres del tenis chileno, desplazando a Paul Capdeville.

Adrián García aparecerá cerca del puesto 135, gracias a los 56 puntos que sumó en el polvo de ladrillo polaco.

Cabe consignar que el chileno (192º de la especialidad), junto al italiano Tomás Tenconi (164º), perdió el sábado la final del certamen de Poznan.

La raqueta nacional y su compañero cayeron ante los polacos Lukasz Kubot (177º) y Filip Urban (239º) por 7-6 (5), 3-6 y 3-6.

It was a hard beginning of the season for Adrian... with all those injuries... then it seemed as if he was coming back to shape and we'll see how will he be doing in the US Open... 1st round is through... now the second...

Congrats for the finals in Poznan... actually, he was supposed to come to Sopot, too, as he promised me, but I think then he decided it was better for him to play in the challenger than the Sopot qualies. It turned out a good decision when he advanced to the finals in Poznan (and therefore could not play the Sopot qualies)
