Default Novak Djokovic has not beaten Nadal in a slam in almost three years.

Sure, Novak Djokovic has a close rivalry with Rafa Nadal but he tends to beat Nadal on the regular ATP Tour in events nobody cares about. However, when it matters most in the slams Nadal shows he is the best. People go on and on about Novak winning events nobody cares about like the ATP finals. The ATP finals are at the end of the year it isn't that really big a deal. The media hype this year end event but the truth is the tennis year ends in September at the US OPEN. Novak had a solid year he managed to win Wimbledon only his second slam title outside of Australia in three years. But Novak's inability to beat Nadal in slams tarnishes his legacy. I am stunned that Novak has lost to Nadal four times since the 2012 Australian Open final. Nadal is a great player but Novak choked a few of those matches. Novak almost choked the Wimbledon final against Federer but since Roger is old he got tired in the end. Credit to Novak for winning Wimbledon this year BUT he should of won the match in four sets. I really thought Novak was going to have another mental collapse against Federer but he didn't. Can Novak beat Nadal in a grand slam again?

If Nadal keeps losing to teenage wildcards Djokovic won't get an opportunity to beat Nadal in a GS.

That's how it is and always will be with Nadal and top players. Haters go on and on about roasts of Rafa or Novak's various tour event win streaks against Nadal, etc. But when the chips are down, when it counts most more times than not Rafa will win those matches. But people will continue to rave about Novak or whoever until Nadal comes back, humiliates Novak and the field when it matters until he gets hurt again and the cycle repeats. Simple stuff really.

The chips were most certainly down in that Basel QF...

Three matches in a whole career sample size and it's on one surface.

Man you really showed me.

Also to answer your question polarisgalaxy, Novak certainly can. I think his best chances are at AO. But Nadal would more than likely win at RG, WB, and USO.

Haha. Poor Djokovic. Impressive that Nadal has made all three of the other "Big Four" his pigeons in slam matches.

Hope Nole breaks this rather disturbing trend next year. AO, his favourite slam, would be a good place to start.

The OP just reminded everyone what we already knew: Novak most likely under-performs at slams while Rafa does the opposite, nothing new here. Djokovic beats Rafa at Masters or Beijing events, but when it counts the most, Novak shrinks in front of Rafa. Well at least Novak does better than Fed, who shrinks in front of Rafa whenever they meet.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to BankaiKenpachi again.

Raonic must think like you, that's why he couldn't care less about the WTF and lost all of his matches before his withdrawal.

If that is the case why is Djokovic the one with the on-going GS QF streak and not Nadal?

So now I know two things about polarisgalaxy: she doesn't like Novak and she loves female coaches.

So do I, but keeping perspective on the fact that Nadal has been absent for many of these Slams since 2012 AO, or out early in the case of Wimby.
These losses have stung Novak, and his fans, no end. I am just hoping that this time once Novak finally gets this guy down and on the ropes again, he keeps him there for good.

Dull has never run into a Djokovic off of clay who wasn't mentally in a low place in slams since AO'12.
