I just came across this, there must be a full interview somewhere:

"I never played a good shot on a BP, maybe once. I did what I could and it wasn't much. It would be better if I hadn't 4000 problems to deal with on the court." He's referring to the fact that he has a painful back and blisters at the hands and the feet. "And this morning the abs started to hurt too. It's not easy when you can't move because you're in pain. It put me even more under pressure to take my chances. Actually, the only fine thing is the knee..."

I can totally see him saying that. Poor Gilles I bet he is so pissed off.

It would be totally dumb to play, but Gilles is stubborn and he played for 6 months on a dodgy knee so we know he does silly things.

Oh dear, Gilles .

Can't say I'm all that surprise though, somehow I had a bad feeling about it when Dabul beat Mayer.

Well, anyhow, don't despair, just keep plugging away, you will get back your mojo someday, Gilles .

Three tournaments and yet to win a set, the morale is very low: "I'm reaching saturation point. Nothing is working. And the worst thing is that I don't see how it would work. Everybody is asking me how my knee feels. You know what? Yes, my knee is fine, but that's the only part of my body which isn't hurting. My back seized up 3 days ago. Impossible to work on my serve normally." It was obvious yesterday against Dabul (44% 1st serves). He even won more points on his 2nd serve than on his 1st serve. But let's go on with the medical examination. "My feet are in blood and my hands not far from it. Blisters, blisters everywhere!... Oh, I forgot! This morning my abs were hurting like hell. My body is a big mess because it isn't used to the effort anymore."
But there's more than that. Simon isn't back to the real Simon yet in the game. His groundstrokes have no fluidity, not even his backhand which is his more natural shot, and his tactical management of yesterday's match was random.
Tulasne says that Gilles was playing at a level which allowed a consistent player like Dabul to play his game. Gilles gives his best, but he's tight on all the big points (he had 5 break points, or rather rebreak points, but he didn't take any). "Yes, there's a lot of work to do, but it's normal after an injury. He needs to be in a match situation to 'unjam'/get things moving again." So the Sunrise Challenger can already book two rooms for Gasquet and Simon.

It's the same, but he explains for example that he couldn't hit a cross FH because of his abs (or his back?), which doesn't make things easier against a leftie.
And it confirms he will play Sunrise even though he keeps complaining that his body is aching all over: "All those little pains will go away at some point..."

JMG says that Sunrise will be on bwin.

Gilles This is so It often happens than whilst working to rehabilitate one part of the body, others break down. I have so much sympathy for him,his physical state is getting to him mentally, and vice versa,a wicked vicious circle

I hope by the time his next tournament comes around(I assume he won't bother with the Challenger, even though it looks like the contrary)his aches and pains in his back, abs etc have cleared up.

Lord. What the hell? If you're in pain you don't play more tournaments, Gilles.

But come on.

I find a bit odd that he's talking about reaching "a saturation point". I hope he said that in the grip of the disappointment.
He knows that his comeback in Marseille and Dubai was ridiculously premature, not even able to practice twice a day, aching all over after each practice session - any other player would have skipped those 2 tournaments. It appears he's still not really in shape to play, of course it's frustrating, but it is a bit early to lose his patience already.
I'm fine with him wanting to play tournaments and to test himself on the tour rather than training in Paris, but he has to put things into perspective then.

He should rewatch the matches of his boyfriend when he came back from his long injury break at the beginning of 2008 - boy that match in Dubai, he was looking like a complete beginner out there, I don't think I've ever seen a pro play so poorly... He started to play better in Miami and a few months later he was in the Roland SF, it's really not unusual to take a couple of months.

I am not convinced.

exactly, no need to despair, even if being patient can be hard sometimes.
