I hope Harrison is learning from these experiences rather than just getting Wild cards for the hell of it

He couldn't have possibly done more to earn the one for the Australian and challenger wild cards are absolutely nothing considering his good results at an early age. The USTA has been extremely cautious and conservative in giving him wild cards. They were downright hilarious in how many wild cards they threw at The Don, hopefully they've learned a little bit a long the way.
That's what I worrying about, another Don type of failure because of the vast amounts of wild cards(this isn't the only reason but its one of them).

At least in this respect, there's really no comparison.
This is just one ATP wild card and for a lot of these challengers Ryan is not terribly far from getting direct acceptance. Not to mention he is turning 18 in a few months and has had some very good success in his young career so far.
Look at The Don's tournament history. It's hilarious. He got 6 ATP wild cards before he even turned 16! The Don couldn't even win futures matches and he was getting an ATP wild card every single week.

That really is amazing. Young was also incredibly lucky with his draws in that run. His six opponents were ranked 74, 162, 133, 100, 85 and 150. Plus his first round US Open opponent was ranked 236. Players ranked 70-100 and desparate for ATP wins would kill for a run of good draws like that. Young wasn't able to even win a set.
