This guy Waltz just did a stereotypical Nazi. He doesn't deserve anything. Actually that entire rotten movie doesn't deserve anything. And if it had to be nominated because European journalists swoon for Tarantino, then why was it in a DRAMA category and not COMEDY?

I think it was great to finally see a convincing bad guy again. And Christoph Waltz deserves all the praise and awards he's getting.

Waltz steal the whole damn picture. He kicked butt.

I think Avatar will win, in which will be the biggest sellout since... well... Titanic. The industry is thankful for the revenues... Avatar, Titanic, Lord of the Rings, are that, lots of revenues. They like to honor revenues at least twice each decade. None of those 3 movies have great performances (heck, Titanic didn't even win ONE performing Oscar), but they are mega-productions and bring money home, and the industry shows its gratitude.

So Avatar won best drama? I guess the HFP decided that credibility and relevance are overrated.

The Hangover won best comedy, that's great. Hangover is a better movie than Avatar, but neither Avatar or Hangover even remotely deserve to be one of the 10 films nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

The Hurt Locker and Bigelow should win BP and directing.

If Avatar wins it all, it will join the list of undeserved best picture winners, à la Slumdog, Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, Titanic, Driving Miss Daisy... Give Avatar the technical awards, but such a terribly written movie should not go on to win BP.

I read an article where HFP is not really representative of the foreign press at all, but a small group of up to 150 people, most of whom are not even journalists. The group itself decides who is allowed in, and being an actual member of the foreign press does not get you anywhere.

And this small Hollywood clique spends months being wined and dined by the movie industry. Ricky Gervais' joke about buying the Globe is apparently right on the money.

But never mind, I tuned in just to see Sophia Loren glide across the stage like a stately galleon and receive the worship of lesser lights in the Hollywood galaxy.
