I don't want to jump on the bandwagon and like things because everyone else does. I want to like something because I purely do want to like not, not because I feel like I have to like it because everyone else does.

alrightey... US award season is pretty much over, but in May there's Cannes of course where Tim Burton will chair this year.

Talking about Tim Burton, his new movie Alice in Wonderland has become a massive success pretty much everywhere where it hit cinemas. In the US it easily kept the top spot over Matt Damon's and sparkling vampire Robert Pattinson's new films and has grossed slightly more than 200 million $ in two weeks. Avatar had 280 million $ at that point.
I've watched AiW and did not really like it. The characters seemed flat and Wasikowska clearly proved too weak to keep to carry this film and keep the viewer interested for almost two hours. Depp and Bonham Carter weren't convincing either. The most positive thing, not exactly surprising, was the visual part. All in all it was fine, but not outstanding or what you might think of hearing visionary Tim Burton doing his version of Alice in Wonderland. It should get sth. like two Oscar nominations in the visual categories though. Oh, and it was sth. like 15 minutes too long.

Very talented Joaquin Phoenix won't play Edgar Allen Poe as it was rumoured, but things are looking good that he'll end his rap hiatus hoax(?) soon.

Quentin Tarantino is reported to be in talks with Lady Gaga for a killer role in his new film.

There will be a 3rd Kill Bill movie despite Bill being killed in part 2 and actor David Carradine being dead. Not before 2014 though. Tarantino will return to acting in 2011 playing brainy smurf. I kinda like that thought.

Shooting for The Hobbit pt. 1 will start in summer this year in New Zealand. It will be released in 2012.

How to Train Your Dragon taking over from Alice

should also be one of the favourites to succeed Up as we're heading into a clearly weaker year of animated features, there's new Toy Story and Shrek movies and Disney will take the Rapunzel path this year

then there's The Illusionist by Sylvain Chomet (Les triplettes de Belleville) and Megamind starring Will Ferrell and Pit Bread

4 out of those six should get the nod, plus one surprise nominee maybe like The Secret of Kells this year

How the hell can they cut 4/5 main characters from Criminal Intent. And what's even worse is that I will keep watching it despite this massacre because I really like Goldblum (and his role).

German movie awards were held yesterday and not surprisingly The White Ribbon was the big winner taking 10 wins from 13 nominations, including everything apart from female leading, male supporting, best editing and best music.

Watched daybreakers, very scary

Astro boy: wow especially smart people who will understand the political humour in the movie lol about the "peace maker" destroying robot but there were some parts that was sad.

Looks like there's still a lot people whose dragons are scratching the furniture, tearing up the lawn and setting fire to garden hoes as the animated feature regains the top-spot almost a month after its release, which on the one hand speaks for its longevity, but on the other for a rather weak April. I'm not a big fan of the film apart from the visual effects, which are really impressive. However, if it keeps another weak J-Lo-romcom from gaining the top spot, there's no reason for complaining. There's in fact a pretty good chance for it to last one more week before Iron Man 2 will take over. HtTYD has clearly become a surprise hit in a year where most people were looking at Toy Story and Shrek sequels in terms of animation.

Another in my opinion really recommendable film that hit American cinemas this week is Oceans, which was released already some time ago in Europe due to the French origin of the producers. They are the ones who created Winged Migration almost a decade ago and switched from skies to seas this time. Oceans offers some breathtaking underwater filming. It's probably not airing in as many cinemas as most other new movies, simply because it's a documentary, but if you're lucky enough to have it shown near your home, it's absolutely worth the watch.

Noooo. I don't want to wait longer for The Hobbit.

but, wait...there's a Smurfs movie?? All Hobbit distress is eased I know exactly where I'll be in August of 2011. Neil Patrick Harris is going to make the perfect Johan Quentin Tarantino turning down a chance to be Brainy Smurf Must have had an issue with deferring to Papa Smurf so much..
