Re: ~ The AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2010 cheering thread ~
First or second round against Andreev I think then 3rd rd Montanes, 4th rd Hewitt/Simon, QF Denko, SF Nole.

Re: ~ The AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2010 cheering thread ~
My initial reaction to hearing he could meet Kolya in the QF was mild panic but then I actually looked at it as a whole & remembered that Roger had beaten Kolya many times before & at slams & he knows what he's doing & how to raise his level at the right time & the panic dissipated. I do like that Murray & DelPo are in the other half along with annoying people like Karlovic too & overall I think it could have been worse but I'm still not confident til I see him (& other players) play for myself.
Quick question though, how did he get Andreev 1st round? I mean he's like ranked 30something isn't he? Just seems like a harsh opening match to be honest but there we go.

Re: ~ The AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2010 cheering thread ~
Only the first 32 players are seeded and Andreev is 36 or something, but he's been absolutely dire at Hopman cup so
To be fair he's been in diabolical form ever since the USO where he got bagelled by Witten

Just checked, Andreev's lost 7 out of his last 8 matches dating back to USO

Re: ~ The AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2010 cheering thread ~
I'm not worried by Andreev. I don't think Rog will have any big trouble before the QF. Verdasco might trouble him, but if Davy is going to reach the QF he's gonna change his attitude and gameplan or his SF streak will end.

Re: ~ The AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2010 cheering thread ~
It's a pretty good draw for Federer, but if he plays like he did in Doha, it might not matter. I don't know if he was 'hiding' anything or not, but he barely attempted to hit FH's against Gulbis, Davydenko, or Korolev. Gulbis and even Korolev pushed him around on most rallies and lost points not because they were put under pressure, but because they hit errors.
For most of the tournament, Federer was pushing the ball which won't cut it since he doesn't have the movement to defend as he once did, and it really shows against someone like Davydenko. Federer's way of playing him has been different the last few times they have played. Not as much slice and waiting for a good FH to run around to because he wasn't able to run around to his FH and when he did, he didn't hit any good ones.
Something tells me we might see a different type of Federer at the AO, but who knows. Should be a good tournament with a lot of possible QF matchups.

I am not worried about Andreev either, he is in quite a slump recently.
