Baggy in Down Under
week 1 - Brisbane
week 2 - Sydney
week 3 - Melbourne
he needs one more to withdraw in week 1 and 2 to be seeded
he won't be seeded in Melbourne probably, but that's fine; if he's in good shape, he won't have to fear any seeded player and if he's not, no unseeded player needs to fear him
pame Marco

Re: Baggy in Down Under
ok... with 4 days until Brisbane we've reached the point where I get offically nervous , I so want him to have a good year, he deserves it with all the injuries he had in the last months/years

Re: Baggy in Down Under
Thanks for creating the thread
I think it's better to have one big thread for every few tournaments, instead of him losing at one tournament in the first round and the thread has 5 posts in it

Re: Baggy in Down Under
I really hope he does good in Brisbane, because I really want him to get seeded for the Australian Open
A seeding almost guarantees him a spot in the third round since he usually does well in Melbourne so he'll only have to win one match against a seeded player to defend his points. Then again, if he's seeded between 25 and 32, maybe it's better to not be seeded since he'll play someone in the top 8 in the third round

Re: Baggy in Down Under
As posted in the news/articles thread, January 1 is Family Day in Brisbane and Marcos is playing a mixed doubles exhibition to raise money
WTA players Daniela Hantuchova and Casey Dellacqua will be there as well as former WTA player Nicole Pratt

Re: Baggy in Down Under
Brisbane MD:
[1] RODDICK, Andy (USA) vs LUCZAK, Peter (AUS)
BALL, Carsten (AUS) vs ZVEREV, Mischa (GER)
GASQUET, Richard (FRA) vs NIEMINEN, Jarkko (FIN)
QUALIFIER vs [6] MELZER, Jurgen (AUT)
[4] BERDYCH, Tomas (CZE) vs QUALIFIER
FISH, Mardy (USA) vs BAGHDATIS, Marcos (CYP)
LLODRA, Michael (FRA) vs LEVY, Harel (ISR)
CHELA, Juan Ignacio (ARG) vs [8] BELLUCCI, Thomaz (BRA)
[5] QUERREY, Sam (USA) vs BLAKE, James (USA)
GICQUEL, Marc (FRA) vs PETZSCHNER, Philipp (GER)
SERRA, Florent (FRA) vs QUALIFIER
DENT, Taylor (USA) vs [3] MONFILS, Gael (FRA)
[7] CHARDY, Jeremy (FRA) vs FALLA, Alejandro (COL)
CLEMENT, Arnaud (FRA) vs ODESNIK, Wayne (USA)
(WC) TOMIC, Bernard (AUS) vs QUALIFIER
(WC) MILLMAN, John (AUS) vs [2] STEPANEK, Radek (CZE)
Not the best draw, tricky R1 and if he wins he'll most likely get Berdych

Re: Baggy in Down Under
I'm pretty new on this board, but I posted a few times in the Copa Argentina thread because I am a Nalby/Baggy fan who is pretty excited by the quality of play from Marcos in the Stockholm Open and the exhibition in Argentina.
I'm cheering for him to win in Brisbane, and hopefully he isn't drawn early against one of my other favorite players in the Australian Open, because in my mind he is back and a serious threat after winning back to back Challengers, his close loss to Rafa in Beijing (4-6, 6-3, 4-6) the ATP Stockholm Open title where he didn't lose a single set, and the recent Copa Argentina exhibition where he straight setted Gonzo and Pico. He lost to Nalby in the Copa Argentina final, but in all fairness, due to rainouts on Saturday, he was only allowed a few hours of rest before the final after beating Juan Monaco in a tough match (7-6, 7-5) on the same day.
Good luck to Marcos in Brisbane, Sydney and the AO. I think this will be a great year for him. He is a joy to watch and I love his personality. It was a real treat to see Nalby and him play again in December, although he did crush my heart in the 2006 Australian Open semi-final against Nalby.
Pame, Marco!
