No,

But Federer is 28 which is old. He only has 1 or 2 more years of Tennis dominance before he becomes a "has-been" and Murray/Del Portro or Nadal stomps him regularly.

Default Tournament Questions and Tips for Fans ( No these aren't gambling selections)

This is a thread for general advice about tournaments as a fan. Hopefully posters here can give some good advice for fellow fans, stuff like how to get there and other general advice.

Australian Open

Instead of lining up on the day to buy ground passes for the day. These can be bought online or if you are in Melbourne before the event, visit the ticket outlets (Ticketeck) and buy them then. When the cattle lines up on the Monday, you will already have your ticket so less time to wait.

Gates open at 10am when play starts at 11am, usually there are plenty of players training. Tickets for Rod Laver can go anywhere besides Hisense Arena and vice versa.

Qualies are free and also the trams to the tennis centre are free during the tournament as long as you have a ticket.

Food of course is overpriced at the venue. But there is a 24hr supermarket in the city centre which is around 50m from a tram stop to the tennis, which is just outside the main train station at Flinders St.

It can be any event a Slam, TMS, IS, ISG or whatever.

They don't allow cans, but you can have water in plastic bottles or Powerade/Gatorade and then fill up at the various water stations.

Yes, they are fine with some foodstuffs like fruit and if you have some sandwiches in the resealable bags, never had a problem with getting them into the venue.

Good thread, man. I might put up some tips & tricks for Stockholm later on. One thing I can say now is that the practice courts are very accessible, and it's easy to check the schedule of when the players practice. It's quite an experience to see the royal shoulder turn of Hernandez up close.

Bĺstad

For those who go there. It's a very small town and it gets very packed during the week of the Swedish Open, so accommodation can be hard to find as many places fill quickly. This mixed in with a lot of rich Stockholmers who come down to their summer houses. The youth hostel is quite close to the action and clean.

Tickets are reasonably priced considering where you are and what time of the year it is.

As for getting there it depends on where you are coming from. If coming from mainland Europe, then it's about 90 minutes by train from Copenhagen airport. The station is about 2km from the town and pretty much everything happens in the small centre of Bĺstad.

Quite a few good parties, the place is right on the beach and yes it gets windy.

Awesome thread

Aussie Open, definately taking a water bottle with you is a must as well as a hat and suncream! Unless you have a decent size bank account and can afford the over the top pricing!! It is also walking distance to the cbd if you dont feel like squashing in like sardines on the tram during peak periods!!

I very much like this idea AJ, but I had a vision of creating a small sub-forum where we could list each tour event and a few of the big challengers and people contribute in any tournament thread they choose?

Considering how well members' blogs (from tournaments) are received on here, I think this would be an excellent addition to the forum. I'd love to read a handful of contributions on various events, featuring advice for visiting, local places of interest and photos from the event/places of interest nearby. I'm sure there are hundreds/thousands more who would love to read this sort of info as well.

We could almost be creating a travel brochure for the tour, and it's a project I'd like to contribute to in the future.

Now, to keep my answer to the thread topic...loving the contributions on the AO. Yet to go (even to Australia), but hoping to make it within the next 3 years.

Yeah, I have heard that the sights are rather good...and I'm not just talking about land and architecture.

I'm most interested in seeing parts of USA/Canada, South America and Australia/New Zealand...pretty sick of Europe now. I'd consider most tournament venues in these parts.

I mean Umag I think the surface is changing and Kitzi is gone, which means two of the best party places on tour are on the way out.

The Argentines here should be able to tell you about Copa Telmex. Though the event will suck if it's on hardcourt. The club where they hold it is in the north of the city, so no you aren't in La Boca.

Yeah, that's why a subforum would be good.

My only concern with this thread is that we rack up 10, 20, 30 pages of posts, and the information just gets tangled.

Acapulco and Buenos Aires would be top of my list for South America...and obviously it would be good to see some tennis there.

As for Australia, I'd love to see Sydney and Melbourne (and some tennis). My tennis-related dream is to sit through a night session at the AO and US Open.
