good question. That's why we are looking into it to see what (could have) happened.

Maybe some of his friends came accross his posts and saw the banned thing was gone

i noticed this before but thought it was normal . jaap is also permabanned but reading his post it writes registered user under his name , not banned . think problem is little more serious . even the site doesn't want to permban people . don't know why mods insisting . why is problem if somebody breaking the rules ban him over and over again, so he can decided if he wants to go far . Is it that hard to read one post and pinch the ban button if somebody deserves . maybe he/she will learn from his/her own mistakes, if not again the same procedure . if this is so complicated to do then you shouldn't be a mod . I mean mods and admins aren't owners of this site to decide who can participate and who can't, they are just serving to the people . noble work .

mods are like government . trying to make the people happy . and like i see many user aren't satisfied with this permaban policy . why not to open a pool and allow people with more than 1000 posts or so to vote for or against permban policy and finally rid off from this permaban whining if more people support permabanning

Okay, so here's what I know - in the interest of calming any weird conspiracy theories that the mods are having some sort of Christmas fun:

GlennMirnyi was not unbanned by the mods or admins - by which, I mean the mods and admins never had a discussion about rescinding his permanent ban and agreeing to reinstate him. Never happened. No reason why it would. Permanent ban means permanent. It was a decision taken 8 months ago and there's no reason for us to review it.

So his account suddenly being active again last night came as a surprise to us as much to anyone else.

So there's one of a couple of things that must have happened to cause this:

1) One of the mods or admins who has the ability to reverse a ban has "gone rogue" and reversed the ban on GlennMirnyi and is now lying about doing so. Seems incredibly unlikely and they must have known it wouldn't stick so I can't see the point.

2) Some sort of technical glitch has caused this to happen - I have asked the technical people to look into it and come back to me, but given the time of year, I don't expect a timely response. No other account that I am aware of has been affected, though. If anyone sees any that have been, please let me know.

3) Gu appealed over the heads of the admins to someone at Verticalscope and convinced them to rescind his ban - and Verticalscope did this without asking the admins about it beforehand or telling us it was done afterward.

4) Somehow somebody has managed to hack the database and reinstate the account - but now we're getting a bit Mission Impossible....

That's as much as we know, right now, but that's not the end of it. I'll do my best to get to the bottom of this.

jonathancrane posted it in AS thread long before Glenn came to post (no need of any DA, we did vividly discuss it a couple of hours before he showed up, enough is to lurk, or have it repeated on MSN/FB)

i believe it first occured years ago when Leena got unbanned, looks like some faulty system, no one was unbanning her back then (though MTF had a different owner then, but I do remember a similar reaction "wow Leena is not banned she can come and post" and as soon as she came she was banned again)

though Glenn is far more peaceful than most of banned clowns, how about giving him 1 night a year on MTF? New Year Eve or sth?
