I wrote what I wrote about hoping those two don't meet before I saw the draw for Rome, Will.
I just deleted my message as I had no idea the Rome Draw had already been released and Robin and Rafa are in the same Quarter. I've been consumed by Barcelona, and as always, am nervous before the final too. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I thought you were talking in general terms.
I hope he faces Rafa now in Rome too as that would mean he would have beaten Montanes in R32, and either Wawrinka, Melzer or Berdych in R16. What a horrible draw!!!!
Maybe the Clay specialist Wawrinka will exhaust the in-form Melzer and the winner of that one will exhaust the in-form Berdych? But Montanes is a great clay court player, so yeah, "one match at a time" isn't a "cliche" in this upcoming tourney. I hope he gets enough rest before Round 2, and obviously, what a huge advantage he now has getting "Byes" as a top seed in every tourney. Wawrinka and Melzer must be pissed off. Either one of those two have the potential to go deep in Clay tournaments right now, so horrible luck for them to have to square off in Round 1, and then probably face the on-fire Berdych in Round 2.
Only hope to take Rafa out before the Quarters is Kohli in R32. He has played him tough in the past, and generally speaking, is not a player the high seeds like to play (see Roddick and Nole
). But Rafa's R16 section of that Quarter is the only part that isn't stacked. So Rafa is almost assuredly going to make the Quarters, will be well rested, and Soda will have to win several wars to even get there. I hope Robin doesn't play until Wednesday evening so he can rest and rejuvenate himself for Rome.
But first off, the Barcelona Finals tomorrow against Nando. One thing is for certain: having played Nando, Chela, Lopez and De Bakker on Clay the past week, he probably has already adjusted to the surface. It will all be a matter of being well rested and rejuvenated. Nando should be exhausted I would think playing to the Monte Carlo and Barcelona finals back to back, and often going the distance in many of his matches. The "energy factor" clearly favors Robin tomorrow.
Nando may go out early in Rome due to exhaustion from back to back to back weeks of play. I don't see too many players nowadays maintaining schedules like the one he has been playing.
