Our Mission Statement:
"To be the most dedicated, loyal and fearsome warriors in battle. And to support our fellow warriors with encouragement, companionship and compassion in the face of all adversity. Our primary mission is to ensure peace, tranquility and harmony for all residents of the Castle."

==============

The Way of the Warrior at the Castle and Beyond

"the Castle's Bushido"

1. Sacred Combat and Respect: In Aikido and other Eastern martial arts, you always bow to your opponent, as a way of expressing what your soul would like to declare: “I honor and respect you as a worthy opponent, and value the opportunity to learn and grow through this combat with you.” Honor and respect your fellow warriors but honor and respect your opponents even more for the opportunity to learn and grow.

2. Uncompromising Integrity: A warrior’s character and his/her honor are steadfast. And his/her word is bond.

3. Serve: A true warrior serves with honor on and off the battlefield.

4. Excellence: Excel as warriors through discipline and relentless will.

5. Preparation: Constantly train for battle and fight to win. Failure is never an option for the warrior. Be ready to lead at a moment’s notice.

6. Reality: A warrior is always grounded in reality. A superficial warrior cannot see how things happen, even though the evidence is everywhere. But a warrior who is centered, conscious, and grounded in reality always has the deeper understanding. The ferocious dog bites the excited warrior. The conscious and centered warrior walks by unharmed. Being centered means having the ability to recover one’s balance. A centered warrior is simply not subject to passing whims or sudden excitements.

7. Kindness: It is a known fact that the greatest martial arts are also the gentlest. They allow an adversary to fall down gently. A great warrior also does not rush into every battle. A great warrior offers his adversaries the opportunity to make crucial self-defeating errors.

8. Live in the present: A warrior has reconciled the past, prepares for the future, but remains firmly entrenched in the present moment. A warrior does not see present experiences in the light of past experiences. Seeing the present through the eyes of the past is a way of remaining in the world of illusion. This is akin to viewing a sunset. Each one is different from the ones before it. Comparing the one being viewed now with past sunsets may detract from a warrior’s ability to fully experience it.

9. Reflection: A warrior has to be able to analyze him/herself objectively and to think in a rational manner when engaging in a discussion and be willing to admit his/her own mistakes.

10. Awakening: chillax with your fellow warriors at the Castle. trying to be too flashy suggests instability. Rushing to judgement gets you nowhere fast. Promoting yourself reveals your insecurity. A wise warrior knows that trying to appear brilliant is certainly not enlightened. In his book, Shambala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior, Chogyam Trungpa defines warrior as "one who is brave". Bravery, among many things, also involves a willingness to let your defenses be exposed so we can open more fully to life. In Trungpa`s words, discovering fearlessness comes from working with the softness of the heart. So in that spirit, resolve to chillax, learn, and grow stronger from your interactions with your fellow warriors at the castle.

11. Alliance of the Warriors: Consider yourself, each of you, as a warrior with only one wing. And you can only fly if you embrace each other. This is consistent with what the great warrior king, king Leonidas, also believed. He said that in the final analysis, we are only as good as the warrior next to us.

When two warriors move in the same direction, they forge a much deeper bond, based on encouraging each other to honor the sacred presence and basic goodness within them. This often proves to be an unbeatable combination in any battle. Then and only then can these warriors really appreciate their connection for what it is---an alliance of warriors. The castle is an alliance of warriors.

And things are not what they seem
Let's go on and fight
For that which is right

Prediction Warriors Contest (PWC) - Rules & Info

- please submit your prediction of the winner of each match in the daily OOP once it's posted in this thread AND PM me with your prediction list as well, submissions are not accepted once the first match of the day has started.

- you are allowed to edit your post as long as the first match hasn't started yet.

- your participation will be nullified if your post has been edited after the start of the first match for any reason (even typo).

- post the full score of the matches chosen under the "tie-break matches" tag, these scores decide the winner in case two contestants were tied.

- the score is decided in the following manner (according to order of priority) :

* tie-break matches winners > sets won/lost > percentage of games won/lost > order of sets won/lost *

- if two or more contestants were still tied after the tie-break matches, the prize is divided between them and all are declared winners.

- a match result would count as long as one set has been completed, if either player retired before the completion of the first set, the match is abandoned, the same is applied to W.O.

- a one set match would be counted as a straight sets win, that is if a participant predicted the win in straights and others gave set(s) to the retiring player, the winner would be the one who predicted the straight sets win.

- everyone is welcome to participate and not just regular posters in the Castle.

- results are announced and vcash is given as soon as possible (usually on a daily basis).

- rules are subject to changes without prior notice and additional rules may be applied circumstantially.

good luck and have fun!

A true warrior is someone who strives to be the best they can be at all things (living life to its fullest) and not necessarily as someone who has prowess in the physical/martial arts of battle, but also in the arts of the psychological, mental and spiritual so that one may have the discipline to change our own behaviour to that of living honourable and in a sacred manner.

A person who lives with honour is noble.

A warrior is someone who lives to a strict code of honour AND lives life to the fullest in full awareness and without fear of the unpredictable nature of life and of the constant presence of death.

Death is not to be seen as something to be feared but only another part of the journey and therefore as with all things it is to be faced with honour.

in the Castle we draw inspiration from the great King Leonidas who has achieved immortality by his true warrior spirit that he showed for his country and his people.

one of his inspiring quotes for all ages:

"In the end, a warrior's true strength is the warrior next to him. So give respect and honor to him, and it will be returned to you. First, you fight with your head."

Nadal's bust in London leaves big questions

by Richard Evans, FOXSports.com

Updated: November 27, 2009, 7:07 PM EST 0 comments
LONDON - Thanks to the quirks of the round robin system, Novak Djokovic won his third match here in the ATP World Tour Finals but still failed to qualify for the knock-out semifinal round because Nikolay Davydenko defeated Robin Soderling 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 — a result that puts both the Russian and the Swede into the weekend.

ATP World Tour Finals The game's best are in London this week for the ATP World Tour Finals, and Richard Evans has it all covered. Follow all the top stories from the O2 Arena.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Latest from Evans:
Day 6: Nadal left with plenty of questions
Day 5: Del Potro drama ousts Murray
Day 4: Nadal has big letdown in London
Day 3: Murray runs out of gas vs. Federer
Day 2: Nadal's swagger has gone missing
Day 1: Federer, Murray please the crowd

But whereas Djokovic will head home to Monte Carlo well satisfied with his end-of-season push, having won titles in Basel and Paris, the world No. 2 Rafael Nadal ended a disastrous visit to London with three losses and no sets won. He actually played a bit better today against Djokovic but was still no match for the Serb indoors and went down 7-6 (5), 6-3.

"Rafa on the Rocks!" cried the London Independent, and it is hard to view the Spaniard's game in anything but sinking mode. No tournament win since Rome in May, not a single set won in his last eight meetings with opponents ranked in the top eight — this is a desperate record for a man who was being touted by Andre Agassi and others as capable of winning the Career Slam after he captured the Australian Open last February.

Polite, honest and charming to the last, Nadal was still telling us how he was not that disappointed at his poor showing here because the court did not suit him, he had not been playing well enough to win the title, and the last six months of the year have never been his profitable period of the campaign.

But all through his dissertations this week there have been little give-away signs of what is going on inside his head. Basically, he is no longer thinking like a champion.

The ATP finals were a painful experience for Rafael Nadal. (Clive Brunskill / Getty Images)

"Decisive moments; this necessary calm, for example, the forehand at 6-5 in the tiebreak, was (an) easy ball. And when you are playing good, that wouldn't be a problem, that ball. But, you know, I made the mistake; I lose the set and with that set, the match."

This was Nadal owning up to a worrying lack of confidence. In his pomp, there was not a ball that Rafa did not think he could put back in play, often turning defense into attack with the venomous top spin he was able to impart on the ball.

Now he seems to be moving a fraction slower, and the ball is not rotating as fast. Opponents see openings and possibilities they never saw before. This, of course, happens to all great champions in their declining years, but Nadal is still only 23. The problem is his knees are much older than that.

Although he denies that he is not as muscular as he was and insists his weight has remained the same, it certainly does not look that way to the naked eye. Nadal laughs it off by saying that he looked more muscular in his old sleeveless shirt, but there are whispers that the de-bulking is all about taking weight off those knees.

The Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic next weekend in Barcelona — which will be played on clay, his favorite surface — will energize Nadal but he is already looking past that to 2010.

"This tournament gives me the opportunity to see what I have to do to play better next year," he said. "First of all, work. Still working a little bit more with the serve. And a little bit more control of all the shots, no? The other thing is to play more aggressive. For example, I have to be more aggressive on the first shot."

Nadal talks of work because it was the workaholic in him that made the kid from Majorca into a champion. But one wonders why he needs to play an exhibition in Abu Dhabi in January and then an indoor event in Rotterdam immediately after the Australian Open. Surely the less time he spends on hard courts, the better chance his knees have of recovering or, at least, of not getting worse.

Maybe he is in denial about his knees because he tends to cite fatigue as the prime reason for his slump in form.

"Finish battery," he laughs. "I need to charge a lot. Sometimes you have to buy other ones. That's what I'm going to do next year. Charge and practice hard."

But all through his dissertations this week there have been little give-away signs of what is going on inside his head. Basically, he is no longer thinking like a champion.
THAT is what concerns me the most, without his will he's nothing

it worries me too.

well the clay season will reveal it all. if he fails to assert himself on clay in 2010 then he is done i am afraid.

brought down by the chronic knee issues which he could have prevented.

Took me awhile to figure out what y'all meant.

Here is my last post in Volume 20 that should've been posted here:

No doubt, CD. I saw Del Pony tearing up the field at the Legg Mason Classic and the Rogers Cup (beating Andy Roddick twice, Rafa and everyone else) and filled out my U.S. Open bracket with Del Pony winning it all. I won the bracket challenge I was in for making that pick. I had Nole taking Fed out in the Semis (it was a bet, so I picked Roger to beat Robin in the QFs and he did so) and Del Pony beating Nole in the Finals, but anyway.

To me, he seemed like the logical choice to win the U.S. Open and I was basing that on form, and how much guts he showed when down set points or like when he served that ace in the tiebreaker against Rafa at 6-5 in the first set at the Roger's Cup. That pick came from my head, not my heart. So in tomorrow's match, my head says Del Pony, but my heart says Soderking.

I do readings and they are usually right and don't often tell me what I want to hear. The reading for yesterday's match said that Sod would lose to Kolya. And the damn thing was right again. It also picked the victories over Rafa and Nole!! It says he is going to win tomorrow though..... so stay tuned..... Then the reading also said he will lose in the Finals. Probably to Fed again!!

Nat, I think that shot against Andy was the called the #1 for Roger ever in a YouTube countdown of his Top 10 I watched a few years ago. I remember that one well. Andy looked so young back then. I don't know if it would still be #1, but it is unforgettable!

d-pot has been slowly gaining on the top dogs. you can just see his progress. he has such easy power due to his 6 foot 6 frame. i think we may have a menace on our hands. he looks unsure on grass but seems very much at home on hard courts and clay.

no telling what is really going to happen in the 2nd match. a few points in the clutch may decide the match if soderling can bring his best form. we know d-pot will dial in once he settles down.

first match is a done deal as far as i am concerned. fed is just too slick for the russian.
