if there are to be no carpet challengers this year i wonder what surface Belgrade will be on? unless they either move away from Gemax or put some kind of rubber mat over the carpet.

Rhodes downgraded
Athens now on hard
But I guess it isn't that surprising . After all, the women switched to hard in 2009 and it was very successful. Also, I guess they're moving it since the Olympic Tennis Centre is much much bigger, and in 2008 and 2009 it was hard to fit a lot of people at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club since the stadium court only seats 1,500 and it was always packed for the last few days, and they will have more seats at the Olympic Tennis Centre where Centre Court has 8,000 seats. And the attendance was poor for the women in the early rounds, but amazing for QF-F. It's upsetting that the Athens Lawn Tennis Club won't be used though . It is the oldest club in Greece, it is in the center of Athens right next to the Temple of Zeus and you can see some of the Acropolis from it. Maybe in the future they will add a 30K challenger there or something if Greece gets an ATP event

haha, the centre court was packed in the final only... half-empty in the semis... and tragically empty and lifeless in the qualies and the early rounds.
the other courts (court 3 and court 4)? thumbs down to hilariously empty, 10-20 people hanging in there. perhaps the tournament, compared to the rest of tournaments throughout Europe, hit an all-time attendance low.
i was there the whole week and, not surprisingly though, i enjoyed good tennis... the first-round match between Cuevas and Ouanna enjoyed the most, have to say that... sadly only 11 people watched it...
Last month I finally saw Pablo in the flesh in Athens. The 10 spectators () were literally within touching distance of Pablo (and Ouanna) when they were sitting at courtside between the changeovers... burying their heads in a towel... or eating a banana...
^Really? From what I saw it looked pretty full for the QF or SF, I don't remember which, but maybe it was just the angle
Then again, it looks about 75% full here for the doubles semis in 2008, on a Friday or Saturday:
The problem with attendance at the Olympic Venue is that it's so isolated from the rest of Athens. The old venue had a better location.

And they added Napoli and Manta to the calendar (also moved Baton Rouge to one week later). Napoli was 85K+H last year, is 30K+H this year.
