Andre at Legg Mason 2004
Agassi Moves Closer to Title No. 6 in Washington
_h__p://www.atptennis.com/en/newsandscores/news/2004/washington_thursday.asp
LEGG MASON TENNIS CLASSIC
Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
August 19, 2004
Top seed Andre Agassi advanced to his seventh consecutive quarterfinal in Washington as he defeated Kristian Pless of Denmark 6-4, 6-2. Agassi, who won his eighth straight match this summer, fired 12 aces and was never broken in the 64-minute match.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:
Agassi: "It's not pressure anymore. It's a great feeling to have the crowd support. I enjoy playing here and my best results have been here, San Jose, Key Biscayne, Scottsdale. It's always nice to play where you play well at. I feel comfortable and this arena allows me to execute my game.
"It always makes things easier when your serve is on and that certainly was the case tonight. My game doesn't evolve around my serve and tonight I was serving very well.
"He's a talented player with a big game. I played him before on clay and it's a whole different story on this surface."
QUARTERFINALS PREVIEW
We're into the quarterfinals at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, with top seed Andre Agassi and second Lleyton Hewitt hoping to remain on course to meet in the final.
Five-time champion Agassi, making his 15th consecutive appearance in the tournament and 16th appearance overall, is through to his 10th quarterfinal in Washington since making his debut in 1987. The 34-year-old, who won the title in 1990-91, '95, '98-99 and reached the final in 2000 (l. to Corretja), meets Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in the quarterfinals.
Agassi, who came into the tournament having defeated Carlos Moya, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt to win the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, extended his winning streak to eight matches with wins over Paul Goldstein and Kristian Pless this week. Agassi, who has reached the semifinal or better in his six appearances in Washington, defeated Mathieu in their only previous meeting at Roland Garros in 2002, coming back from two sets down to win in five.
Go Andre!
