In LA Matty stepped up and came from a set down to dispatch the big-serving German giant Michael Berrer 46, 62, 76(4).
Matt deserved the win, creating more break-point opportunities throughout the match. Berrer saved 3 out of 3 in the 1st, while Matt lost the only break-point he faced in the set. The 2nd was even with 5 bp's each and Matt saved all his, while Berrer lost 2 of the 5. In the 3rd both player's dropped serve once, Matt saving 1 of 2 bps, while Berrer saved 4 of 5 bps.
Matt's serve brought him home in the 3rd, serving at 79% to Berrer's 57%.

Does anyone know why he wasnt seeded in LA? Cause i thought on the entry list before any of the draws came out he was like top 6 seed i think, just curious cause Marinko isnt ranked as high as Matty and Marinko was seeded??

Ebden got really lucky in Toronto. Not only did he snare a LL position, but he drew arguably the weakest player in the field, wildcard Polansky who is ranked 157.

I dont think he is the weakest player. I actually think he will beat Matt. Anyway they play tomorrow on Staduim Court not before 3:00PM local time which is 5am MElbourne time.

Matt suffers the ignominy of a bagel in the first set against Polansky, but has the last laugh winning see-sawing match with plenty of break-point opportunities both ways 06 64 63.
Rides his luck and advances to face Mardy Fish in the 2nd round.

^He has virtually nothing to defend until October, but then it is big points. 270 in total going off total on October 8th and 15th. 65 from Tokyo and 205 from Shanghai.

Matt gets a touch-up from Fish, losing 26 06. (Another bagel).
Both player's served below par, and Fish was able to knock-off half the 1st serve that Matt did serve, whilst at 100% conversion on all of his serves.
