YES!!

I much prefer things from the ocean over things from the land too, not that they cannot make you sick as well, it just usually looks better & makes me feel a little cleaner inside than Beef for example.

Sorry those pics of that barbecue make me want to vomit, oddly enough i am sure it smells great but i'd pass....now a barbecued lobster with grilled vegetables

Has happened more than once. Remember about 2 or 3 years ago a girl died after eating some peaches.

Unless they're organic I've stopped eating the skin of any fruit. Just cleaning under the tap isn't enough, a lot of pesticides get stuck in the skin. I try to buy all my fruit, greenery and dairy organic.

This is not intended to be a rhetorical question, by the way. I mean it.
William Safire would definitely have sided with Snoo Foo. A rhetorical question is still a question.

To rework a common phrase: You have more chance of getting struck by lightning on the way home from the supermarket, than getting sick from E. Coli.

I'm Italian, dear. My wife and I have our own garden where, well, we grow our own veggies.
Here's the info about that outbreak. I remember Dr. Sanjay Gupta made a documentary about it on CNN in 2007.

Lucky you. The last time I had a veggie garden, I was 11 and in the sixth grade. I was one of those rare kids who loved fruits and veggies. Broccoli, spinich, green beans, mangos, pears, peaches... those were my preferred snacks to chips and cookies. We had a HUGE backyard, and I planted tomatoes, cucumbers, and banana peppers. I loved making tomato, cucumber and onion salads. Pick the veggies in the morning, and put them in the fridge so they get nice and cold. By lunch time, take them out, wash them, slice them up, and toss them with some salt and pepper. My salads always seemed to taste better when my veggies came right from my backyard. That's making me hungry because I only have time for a coffee lunch today. I would love to have another garden, but we moved to a new home, and our backyard is small with too many trees so there's not enough sunlight.

Don't you live in NYC? What can you grow in the city.

My primary residence is located in Greenwich, CT.

We also have a residence in Florida, which isn't a bad place for gardening.

The thing is that you can get sick from just about anything you eat. I've known people to become ill from raw produce, seafood and meat. You can't really win. I guess if you just ate bread all the time....

Anyway. Eating hamburger is a bad idea on many levels. You don't have to be a vegetarian to eschew eating burger.

Yes well these are the sorts of consequences you will get when Republican and industry lobbying is allowed to let Congress emasculate the attempts to impose better food safety standards, such as with Clinton in the 1990s.

Safety standards are fine already. More regulation will achieve little, if anything, at a huge cost. More bureaucracy, regulators, parasites at the end with little interest in other than keeping their jobs. Food scares are inherent to cheap mass production. If there is anything that can improve food safetyfrom the current level in the developed world that's consumers. They are the ultimately interested ones, and they have the purchasing power. People should make their choices.
