In my view, if you can actually go out and kill yourself an animal, skin it, cut it, cook it - you have every right in the world to eat it.

If, however, you practically faint at the sight of blood and have never actually seen an animal being killed in front of you, then you're a hypocrite for eating meat while avoiding to recognize what being a carnivore really represents.
I totally disagree with this.

You only have a right to eat meat if you're willing to kill it? No way. Why the hell should you be allowed to do that?

I have no idea how not being able to murder a creature but being able to eat the remains makes you a hypocrite. There's nothing hypocritical about that. Whether it's morally reprehensible however is a different matter.

It really was, but I'm willing to take the bait.

Rational and reasonable?

Rational would be eating anything that supplements your food necessities, doesn't matter what's made of.

But we don't need to eat meat. I don't want to eat it so why should I.

I don't like sweetcorn, my body doesn't require me to eat it so I don't. Exactly the same with meat.

That's not rational, you just don't like it.

It would be irrational to eat something that my body doesn't require but is totally against my beliefs.

Exactly.

This is why being vegetarian is rational

I like meat too much to go vegetarian but sometimes I wish I were because I'm well aware of the barbaric practices they use in slaughter houses. It's still not enough to make me go cold turkey (or, cold tofu).

I ate a hamburger for the first time in several months the other week and I felt really gross and bloated afterwards. It wasn't cooked well enough to my liking either, so I worried about getting e.coli food poisoning.

That's enough to keep my hamburger eating relegated to just the fourth of July weekend, but I still can't give up chicken, turkey, or fish.

Beliefs?

Oh my.

It took some time for the holier-than-thou, sanctimonious attitude of vegetarians to kick in.

Not at all. I have strong views about eating meat and I do what is right for me. I'm not trying to convert anyone and I've mentioned it on this thread only because it is a thread about vegetarianism. I don't think I'm better than anyone else because I don't eat meat. It's my business really and I don't have to justify it to you anymore than you have to justify eating meat to me.

Vegetarianism isn't irrational, but eating meat isn't either.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

You have to justify it if you think it's rational.

I don't like the idea of a chicken being forced to live in a tiny cage in terrible conditions so that I can eat it. So I don't eat it. My body can survive and be very healthy without meat.

How is that irrational?

Very irrational.

First - her life in the wilderness is much worse, where she has to keep running from predators 24-7.

Second - The chicken would do the same to us if it were in the same position.

I can´t stop eating meat.

1) My uncle has a cattle farm. axaxa (but they don´t suffer, they only die young XDD)
2) I´m gaucho and we are the best when it comes to barbecues. (but I don´t care ehehe)
3) I need to be stronger with proteins. I´m not a girl that can be allowed to have thin arms.

But I´m not much of a fan of meat. Veggies, I love them equally. I know meat is more harmful to your body but I´m still not convinced I could be more healthy without them.
Killing other animals is a barbaric act but since we are still barbaric people I must cope with that XD
