Gilles is pretty good on grass but Rafa is better than the lot of them on grass really so I'm not suprised it isn't an option.

Edit Ok what happened to Jo?

It's not an option because there are no grass courts in France.

Puschkin, I was joking It's true that even Spain has more grass courts than we do, someone at the FFT should do something about this.

I agree with the time of the year not being good for indoors part, but i think the team as a whole is better on hard/indoors. On the other end, there was a talk that they could put hard surface on Roland's center court so they can play there, so why not synthetic grass (even if the Montpellier's new indoors stadium is up the list, which would be perfect for me since I have family there )

edit : both Gilles' and Jo's itw on fft.fr says it should be hard and indoors.
GaŽl is saying "We're very seriously thinking about playing it on outside clay... nah just kidding"

So I just came back, and I was first rank to see Jo spraining his ankle :/ it didn't look too bad to us, since he was walking afterwards (barefoot on the court to thank the crowd, and boy, what feet he has !) and he came back at the end of Bennet's match, barely limping. But I understand he prefered not to risk anything for a dead match. Still it shed a cold on the crowd and we had trouble to wake up from the shock to cheer for Bennet.

I had great seats, first rank just behind the line judges because we were upgraded after a problem with our tickets Perfect places to see Llodra going wild, with GaŽl more than happy to follow him during Bennet's match I should watch a record of the livestream, maybe I'm on it.

Quite the contrary, I spend my holidays in France, I study the language and following developments there beyond tennis. But that does include that I like everything and every French sportsperson.

But I really think it is odd that a country with such a tennis tradition like France and a lot of players also in the past doing well on grass has no grass courts for a DC-tie as you yourself admit.

Yeah I thought about that later, this is why I edited my post and deleted that sentence tu parles parfaitement franÁais alors !
I agree with you, I used to play a lot of tennis when I was young and in a lot of parts of France in junior tournaments, and I never saw a grass court. The kids can't even try to play on them to know how it feels, basically the first time they play on grass is at Wimbledon or Queens !

BTW: Was Richard there today? I did not see him, but I followed today's ties only sporadically.

I didn't see him in the stadium, but I don't know if he was still in Toulon or if he had left already for IW (I think the latter.)

About GaŽl's injury, he came in carrying Jo's bag but with an enormous ice pack on his left wrist he took it of after like half an hour and him and Gilles began to play with it, shoving it over each other etc, before one of the physio confiscated it. Such kids

I heard the physios talking about him (GaŽl), it seems he fell on his wrist this morning while practicing with Jo, and they decided not to let him play against Kas (otherwise Julien wouldn't have played.) Boys being careless !

I wouldn't be able to pay attention to any of the matches if I was there, with so much activities happening on the bench to get distracted .

Thanks so much Marion, for the reports and photos.

I honestly don't understand why you guys think grass is a good choice. The top 4 spaniards all have great records in Wimbledon (Nadal the winner, Ferrero QF twice, Ferrer and Verdasco in 4R more than once), and then there's Felicano Lopez, a great grass player in his own right. The French are not bad and Richie is one great grass player, but on paper, they don't get a whole lot of advantage over the spaniards on grass, IMO anyway. I would definitely go with indoor hard, the kind they use in Bercy perhaps ? since Jo, Gael and Richie all have past success in Bercy, and Gilles not too bad on indoor hard either, and Mika is a beast in any indoor hard court inside France .

Default Davis Cup 2010: Vamos Franciaaaaaa...

Thanks Marion for the summary and giving me the score during the weekend
Just back from Belgrade and good news to see we will play Spain
Hope Gael and Jo will feel better soon.
It looks it wil be on fast hardcourt inside. And Forget is looking for a big stadium, so far only Bercy can do it. They might maybe play in Lyin, is someone knows a big place where they can play?

I updated the title hope i did it well
