Matthew Barton Thread
Into the Quarters of a Spanish future claycourt after having to win 4 matches on Qualies. He also qualified the week before for another Spanish claycourt event and won a round.
Was born on the 18th December 1991. Currently ranked 896 in the world and according to his ITF profile he is currently a member of the NSWIS. He doesn't have a profile on Tennis Australia so I can't say much more but I think Andy (Hewitt=Legend) knows a bit more about him.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Saw Matt play at the Manly Seaside in December. Big lad, has a big serve and a HUGE forehand. Won the singles title. Came from a set down to beat Sadik Kadir, if my memory serves me correctly. From the post-match interview seemed like a likable person with a good attitude. Let's hope he progresses well.
Any news on the QF - nothing posted on the ITF site?

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Yeah, like RustyOz said he has a good serve, big forehand and the backhand is a steady shot. Works with Sandon Stolle and Mantilla has been helping him out recently as well. Isn't the most talented guy out there but hard work and commitment to the sport has got him to where he is today. It's funny, growing up playing with and against him, there were probably about 20 guys that were more talented and had more weapons than Matty, but they had poor work ethic and not the required desire to compete as a professional tennis player.
Plays Pedro Clar-Rossello who is the number 1 seed and in good form this year. Hope Matty can put in a good performance, and one things for sure, he will never give up.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
A good performance by Matt against the No.1 seed, going down unfortunately in 3 sets 46 62 62.
Hope he continues to progress and wins more matches.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Excellent effort from Matty, especially against an in form player like Pedro.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Thanks RustyOz and Andy for the info.
Matt got a special exempt into another Spanish Clay future and took out the wildcard Oriol Roca Batalla 64 64 in the first round. Next up is either the second seed Jan-Lennard Struff or Ivan Nedelko.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Great photos Sombrerero. Now people will be able to recognise him. Btw, Barton beat No.8 seed Belgian Alexandre Folie in the 1st round in 3 sets, not letting a 1-6 first set get him down, and bouncing back to win the next two set 64, 64. Good win.
Barton up against another qualifier, Yannick Hanfmann, ranked 941, similar age and ranking to Barton, so hopefully Matt can get another win here and go deeper into the tournament. Go Matt.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Great fighting win for Matty, really settling in to the clay over in Europe. Good opportunity to progress further now, hope he can take advantage of it.

Re: Matthew Barton Thread
Slightly disappointing loss but it's good to see him continuing to qualify for these main draws and winning matches.
Thanks for the pics Sombrerero Loco.
