I have never played a ranked match on clay, but I have played it enough times to say how much fun it is to play on. But since hardcourts are what is primarily in the United States and what I grew up on, it is a difficult thing to say. I would probably get more of a sense of how fun clay would be if I play a ranked match on it.

Played on hard courts, clay and artifical grass (which is sand/clay based I think.) Not sure which I prefer, they are all different. However purely for practical reasons probably hard court as you don't get bits of dirt in your pockets and all over your shoes.

Would like to play on grass but the only club near me that has grass courts is about £800 a year to join (not likely, unless I can get in as someone's guest perhaps.)

Never played on grass either.

So I would say carpet indoor.

What is that, like 1200 USD? If so that is ridiculous!

£770 to be exact (for their tennis/leisure package, they do cheaper ones but they don't include tennis, just access to the clubhouse and gym etc.)

http://www.edgbastonpriory.com/main.asp?id=1

They hold various tournaments there like the AEGON Classic.. http://www.lta.org.uk/Watch/AEGON-Br...AEGON-Classic/

Unfortunately they can't afford a proof reader and/or someone to produce copy who can write English accurately, in the first line it says 'Edgbaston Priory Club is firmly established as one of the countrys most prestigious racquet and leisure clubs', spot the missing apostrophe :-)

So yeah, over $1200 USD. I could look around to see if there are other grass courts in the city I suppose, I will check it out soon.

Found another one for £380 per year (Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society), still a bit pricey frankly but not as bad.

I should point out that Edgbaston is the home of modern tennis, see Harry Gem's wiki entry (I used to live round the corner from Ampton Road.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Gem

The Edgbaston Archery and Lawn Tennis society was one of the first in the world, perhaps one day I will be rich enough to join one of these clubs and play on grass.

Well, 800 pounds per year is what, less than 100 pounds per month? Maybe too eexpensive for a country with good number of grass courts, but here in brazil is something like 20 pounds per hour to rent a hard court, so I don´t think thats so expensive to play in this particular club you said.

I like to train on hard courst to see how my strokes are going, but I reckon I´m more of a baselin clay court player since I like to approach the net puting top spin shots in the approachs.

£20 an hour for a hard court?, that's a lot, I could get an indoor court on a winter evening for less than that (local one is £17.20 p/h, which seems very steep to me but demand is high, if I had a lot of money I would build an indoor tennis centre, it would be profitable)

Are clay courts cheaper there?, btw why do you have use a Czech flag if you live in Brazil?.

We're lucky because practically every court is free here indoor or outdoor. And in my state we have free clay courts as well. However grass is impossible to grow here in Arizona because it gets cooked instantly in our 120+ F degree weather.

I´m using the czech flag because I represent Czech in a MTF Tipping game (plenty of brazilians already).
But basically the courts to rent around here are expensive because I´m in a big city (Sao Paulo) where everything is very expensive. Actually the court is something like R$60 which is a bit less than 30 $.
There are public courts around here but they are a bit far from where I live, and in Brazil, they are not common, so it tells how shitty is Brazil´s tennis and why courts are expensive to rent.
I used to pay a similar month fee (something between 20 and 30 pounds) to a recreational club (with pools, and every kind of sports courts) that have 13 clay courts to play in the city I used to live, and I don´t know about clay courts to rent but I think the price is the same.
Off course you probably can find something cheaper, like the industry society club I used to pay only 10 pounds per month with 2 clay courts and one hard court court, but you must trust they are near to where you live.
I´m saying that for normal courts, for grass courts I think this price is not thaat expensive, but offcourse it would be a luxury.

Clay is without a doubt the best surface to play on. I love how it rewards point construction and physical and mental tenacity. Its much easier on the joints as well.

Hard courts reward timing and precision power tennis. I like how this sport has such vastly differing surfaces to play on that one must adjust their games to be successful on all of them.

Clay is still my favorite, even though I have to play mostly on hard. Never have had the pleasure of playing on grass, though.
