What's the strangest set you've ever played?
I know matches can be a little bizarre because you can be dominating in one set and then sucking in the next set. But sets usually tend to not be as bizarre...
...of course yesterday I played, and the last set score was 7-5 to me. I started with a 1-0 lead, and I think I was up 2-1 and 40-0 on my serve. Then I lost like 9 points in a row, and we kept going on serve until he led 5-4. Then he had 2 set points, both of which I saved.
Then at 5-5 we played a game that must've lasted about 30 minutes...he had 9 break points, I had 5 or 6 game points. We were both incredibly tight. Once I won that game, I won 4 points in a row to win the set

I finally tampered with my sig and found a better font so that the 'r' and 'l' in Soderling doesn't have a gap between!

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
One match, I was getting killed 0-3 in the first. I rallied back to 4-3 me I think, and later won 6-4. Then in the 2nd, I got up 5-2, kid was getting mad because he really let the first set go. He got it back to 5-5 somehow only to lose the next 2 games to me for my 64 75 win.
Another set I was up 5-1 and lost 6-8 in the breaker.
That's all I can think of right now. I am sure there are much weirder sets I have played. I will post back here

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
I was up 5-1. Completely winning most of the points holding/breaking to 15. There was no change in tactics, but I just started making errors and a couple of shots went in against me.
It got to 5-5.
I broke to lead 6-5 serving for it. Got broken.
Tiebreak happens. I save 3 MPs in the TB 2 with lob passing shot winners(this guy was a serve/volleyer for the most part) and one with his UFE. I win the TB 12-10.
Played another match where neither player held serve after 1-1.

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
In one match, we traded 5 breaks of serve in the first five games before I finally held at 3-2 to make it 4-2. We went on serve until I won it 6-4.
Then, I got up 4-2 in the second set, before losing 4 games straight to lose the second set 4-6. In the third, I got up 5-0, lost 5 straight games to get to 5-5, before we traded breaks and went to a tiebreak. I had one match point in the tiebreak where I yanked him around and missed a forehand a few inches wide to get it back to 7 all. I then double faulted, he hit an ace up the T, and won it 9-7 in the third set tiebreak

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
It is always strange to be losing and then all of a sudden get in the zone and just dominate. I've had a couple of those. Honestly don't remember the scores though haha.

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
In the first set we were holding serves untill I got broken at 2-2, I got two break back points but couldn't convert.I saved a set point on my serve at 3-5 to finally hold for 4-5, then my opponent got 40-0 on his serve so 3 more set points,he made two unforced errors then I hit a winning forehand down the line,I came back to 5-5 held serve and broke him again to win the set 7-5.Second set I got 2-0 lead with the break but I've been broken at 3-2,I broke him in the next game and hold serve (5-3).The next game went to deuce and I even had a set point but he hold serve. He broke me at love in the next game, won his serve and broke me again to win the second set 7-5.Third set I've got a 3-0 lead and two break points for the 4-0 lead but 3-1.Next two games went to deuce ,he broke me twice for the 5-3 lead,he had two match point on my serve that I saved after 2 big rallies.5-4 I broke him ,we finally went to a tiebreaker in which I lead 6-2 to win it 7 points to 5.So a 7-5 5-7 7-6 win, we were exhausted.Morality : it's never over.

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
My funniest match ever (it was practise match):
Set 1: Nothing special - 6-1 for me
Set 2: He wins 7-5, after almost choking 5-2 lead.
Set 3 I was leading 5-0 40-15* and he aced twice to save set points and then rallied back to win 3 straight games. I missed another 3 sp at *5-3. Broke him at 5-5* and choked at another sp at *6-5. Was leading 5-1 in a tb, lost 4 straight points, but finally clinched the TB 10-8.
He destroyed his racquet after the last point

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
The background is probably as important (to me) as the actual set.
It was a ladies "suburban" singles match (which is one set, played to 8). It's kind of a strange team format where there are three singles matches, followed immediately by four doubles matches. Our team was shorthanded that day and I got drafted into "singles" service. We were also playing our in-club rivals even though the league has teams all over our metro area. My captain told me that my job was to try to wear out their #2 singles player (who would later be playing #1 doubles). My opponent wasn't really a nemesis; I was so far down any ladders we'd been involved in that I'd never played her in singles. So it didn't really surprise me that I found myself down 1*-6 rather quickly. But a put together a decent service game...as did she and we came to 2*-7.
Then I remembered my captain's request to try to tire her out...so I started playing just a bit of cat-n-mouse: pull her in, lob over her head, move her side to side (rather than my usual serve and attack style). Sure enough, I won my serve, then broke her. Then she got the Demetieva serving yips. I even gave her first serves when other balls even rolled near our court but she just couldn't put it together. Went back to serve-n-attack and she didn't know what to expect.
Hope you can guess it. I won 9-7.
Instead of tiring her out, I must have pissed her off. She and her partner (the #1 singles gal who's since had her rating bumped up) absolutely destroyed our #1 doubles team (who they had a fairly even H2H record with). But my partner and I pulled out the #2 doubles win, plus a few others...and voila...we won the match too! Haven't done it in over 5 years of playing basically the same ladies. Don't know that we can repeat it (and rumor mill has it that she wants to play me again in the Spring)...but it sure did feel good that cool Fall morning.

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
Played a pretty wild best of 5 the other day.
Lost the first two sets 4-6 4-6, being a break up in both. In the 3rd, there were 12 straight breaks of serve I served for the set at 5-4 and 6-5, and choked them both
Then in the tb, he's up 5-3 before I win 4 straight points to take the tb 7-5
Then I got breadsticked in the 4th, 1-6

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
It might sound unbelievable, but it is true...Once, in a match with my father he had 5-0 in the first set. Than followed a 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5...and we finally got to tie break. I won the tie break, which was also very balanced. The other two sets he played clearly better, and I finally lost the match. However, I was very impressed and surprised at my performance, to win a set, after being lead with 5-0.

Re: What's the strangest set you've ever played?
Probably when I went 5-1 up in a third set after having 3 MPs in the second, and he brought it back to 5-5. At *5-5 I went 40-0 up, but he won 4 points in a row for BP. I serve and volleyed 3 times in a row, won the game, and broke to 15 in the next to win the match.
