well for me, i saw clips of the rome win (montage, celebrations etc) and heard comments from others about felix. the line that you had in your signature gwh got me hooked (without seeing him) i thought what a great line. so i decided to buy some matches on dvd, rome, monte carlo.
i was hyped about seeing him playing, and i was really impressed with his game, loved the backhand. Also i really like his personality on court, the expressions, the runs, the grunts lol, hard to put my finger on it. But he has the personality and game i like. when i went to wimbledon this year, i made sure i went to see felix (i was very happy, getting to see my favourite atp and wta players, mantilla and sprem on the same day) i had centre court tickets, so i only watched a set or so of felix, it was great to see him tho! he is now my favourite player

It's hard for me in many ways to describe why I like a lot of my favourite players, then again maybe I just want to keep certain things to myself.

With Mantilla it's another familar beginning in 96 Monte Carlo. This for some reason is the place that I tend to either really discover players, or they get noticed to me, this was the same for Corretja and Gaudio it was the confirmation.

I just happened to see the match when he beat Bruguera the 2x FO champion, and it was old style claycourt tennis, plenty of heavy topspin, great running and Bruguera trying to bring Mantilla forward, but Mantilla getting everything back and he beat him in straight sets.

I loved the fighting spirit, and the heart and he knows himself that he isn't the most talented or spectacular to watch, so that was another bonus for me. That year he beat another fave Corretja, and you know you like a player, when they beat a fave of yours, and it's not a bad thing.

After that as well, he has always been the forgotten Spaniard, the one who was a bit shyer than the others, not the glamorous game, he wasn't a chick-magnet unlike say Ferrero or Moya, and he wasn't say as good as Corretja or Costa, but if it wasn't for him, then they wouldn't have won the Davis Cup in 2000.

The Italian Open win was great for him, and he has had some very good performances away from the clay, but he says he will play for another 2 or 3 more years, and I'll try and get some more pics from him.

Also he is a very good guy as well, so that's another thing in his favour.

LOL well my first impressions were kinda different cos the first time I saw him in real life was during the Australian Open 2003 and he came up to me in this restaurant on all 4s barking like a dog!!! (he had been playing cards with some of the other Spanish players (Portas, Robredo and Martín) and I think he lost the game so they dared him to do it)...was pretty funny...everyone was laughing. I've seen him several times since then though and he's a really nice guy...shame he's not playing so much anymore.

I so believe you don't worry about that. At least you never had to put Jeff Tarango in a cab because he was so pissed.

Felix is a great guy and he should get direct entry into the AO next year and that is something that I am very happy about as long as he doesn't play Gaudio in the 1st round.
