Unhappy Guille and Pulga are done (and so might be Coria's season)

I should tell you all that Coria and I will be working together as player & coach. He has promised me a 200% pay rise should I last more than 12 minutes.

http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pag...fecha=20060919

but one thing is good....
"Soon, he left the door opened for a possible encounter in the future. "When he is whole to put a goal, we will return to speak".
Finally, he praised the Magician: "To work with him it is a pleasure."

i KNEW he had to be furious to lose that match in the challengers like that...
i wonder if thats really it for the year.

guille, its ok, you are far more than tennis, mi amigo

The whole article doesn't make much sense to me. Why the talk about his physical condition? He basically won that match in Szczecin, he just couldn't close it, it looked more like a mental failure.

But we're used to all the blablabla in interviews and you can only speculate about the real reasons.

This collaboration is like a keg of dynamite anyway. I know they are supposed to love each other now, but the worst diatribes I've read from Guille in interviews in the past were directed at Horacio, so... Not really surprising it only needs a little discord and

Anyway, if De la Peña's innovative idea is to take another break (wasn't he saying the exact opposite in NY??), I'm glad they split.

As for me, I can't take another break with a new bunch of embarrassing statements à la "I'm doing a lot of physical work and I'll come back strong and win RG". I'm really done with him if he does that again.

Honestly I must say that I cannot longer stand all this talk and no more breaks longer either
I really, really support Guille, but it just feels so difficult at the moment!
All I want is to hear good news again telling that he has at last won some matches in a better tournament!

I was really sure that Horacio could help him, but I cannot understand his attitude either. Like Truc said in an earlier post, we can´t expect miracles and so couldn´t Horacio, so why does he leave after one lost match???
I really don´t get it

What's the idea with the part about the family in the article, btw? ("Estaba preocupado por estar bien él en su familia. Yo no estaba enfocado para estar 100 por ciento con él y dejar todo esto en Chile")
It sounds to me like one of the problems was that Guille didn't want to leave his family in Argentina and Horacio wanted to stay in Chile, is that right? But they don't have to live together, I don't understand why it is always an issue in the never-ending story of Guille and his coaches.

It does seem weird to leave his coach so soon.

But, even though most of us clearly wouldn't, i'd urge Guillermo to take a break, but a lengthy one this time, 4 months or so where he doesn't really think much about tennis. His 5 week breaks were never going to have a major affect on the way he was playing.

WTF????? They split???? Oh brother...what's next? I think it would be good for Guille to rest and practice the rest of the season and have a brand new start for the next one...it breaks my heart saying it, but it might be the best thing to do

Default Re: Guille and Pulga are done (and so might be Coria's season)

Between here and GM, all I read is everyone saying either that 'Guille sacks coach' or 'coach leaves Guille'....but instead it sounds like a mutual discussion that was had, where they both saw that guille was not really mentally prepared to make a comeback on tour, as evidenced by his inability to creep by a virtual third cousin of a pro, even on clay. The hope to "get on with things" (which is clearly understandable) did not match reality.

Coria had wanted to be with Horatio for a while, and the opportunity came, and Coria didnt want to blow it--so even if he wasnt ready, he tried to grab him before he went to someone else and tried to make it happen, Hoping he would be INSPIRED to be ready!

Against all his own inner protests (to himself and to fate at the moment), he obviously is too wounded to move on right now. And none of us have any idea of his personal situation and where his wound is coming from, but the boy is hurt.

I know everyone is frustrated, I am too, but you know...he is too. But you dont tell the press whats really going on because they harp about it and if he ever makes any kind of excuse (even if its real), they will say he is making excuses....so he just says, "they played better than me." and mentions this or that about little injuries that we mostly know are red herrings. IMO, Hes not trying to bore us all, he is just staying clear of giving the media and press any more bait to write about him.

So my poiint is you'll be less frustrated if you stop needing him to provide answers through the press...Its less about him being necessarily confused than possibly trying for something that has been elusive, and not wanting to fan the fires of public discourse.

I agree, the "stop & starts" are irritating and suggest confusion, but I dont exactly blame him for hoping something is going to work....he IS a potentially all-time great player (which is more than can be said of most all his rivals), and he is not foolish to keep believing salvation may be right around the corner. It could happen any time.

But the stars have built up against him much tougher than imagined this year...and they do not appear to be on the verge of changing his fate at the moment.

I'm totally aware of the second part. But it's true for the "mutual agreement" too then.

If everything is so harmonious and Guille considers taking some time away from the tour for the rest of the season anyway and that's what Horacio wanted too and they don't rule out working again together when Guille will be really ready to come back – why tell all the newspapers that they've parted ways?
I sincerely don't get the whole story, maybe it's a language problem.
