Nik, you are right. I completely forgot about Ferrero's previous quarter final appearance. My bad

I'm not convinced Grosjean will get a WC. I was surprised he got one for Queens, he hasn't played all year and even his home slam didn't give him one (he's a former SFalist there as well, no?).

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am Eaton will get one.

If the LTA is in a kind mood, I'll predict 5 British WC's to:
Boggo
Eaton
Goodall
Ward
Evans

And then 3 foreign ones to:
Dimitrov
Ferrero
Not sure about the last, I don't think Dent or Nishikori will get it. They might spring a surprise and give it to Tomic, bearing in mind the amount of Aussies at Wimbledon.

He is coming back from a surgery (shoulder) and was not ready yet for the clay season.
I really think he deserves a WC if he plays well in Notthingham and Queens.

I knew he had surgery, I didn't know he wasn't ready for RG....

I'm still doubtful he'll get one to be honest.

As much as I like Seb (and am neutral to Ferrero), I think the same courtesy should be extended to both of these guys. Either they both get a WC, or they are both forced into qualifying. Obviously Ferrero has had the better career, but both men have seen better days...

That being said, we might struggle to hand out 8 WC anyway.

Nottingham will be a tough test already. If he doesn't do too well, it doesn't bode well for his chances to get a Wimbledon MD WC.

Grosjean didn't want a WC for RG (of course, they would have given him one)

He has such a great record at Wimbledon, he truly deserves it

Much more than ferrero, who was inured, but played a lot during the last 12 months. just couldn't gain the points.

However, as a former world no 1 I would give it to him

BTW, what's about T. Johannson, former SF, injured...

I would like to see him back here. Any news?

Grosjean just won his 1R in Nottingham very convincingly, so things are looking good for him. I guess both him and JCF will get one.

The WC play-off's will begin on Tuesday, so they will obviously have to have announced who gets the WC's, at least for qualifying, before then, although if they don't, it will be obvious based on who isn't involved in the WC play-off's

The WC play-off's are for qualifying rather than the main draw according to the LTA.

Wimbledon wild cards announced

The All England Club announced wild cards for The Championships 2009, with teenager Laura Robson given the opportunity to play in her first senior Grand Slam.

With Anne Keothavong already directly in the event, a total of six women will play in the main draw. Mel South, Katie O'Brien, Elena Baltacha and Georgie Stoop have all been awarded a wild card with American Alexa Glatch and Portuguese teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito also guaranteed a place in the main draw.

Naomi Cavaday, Naomi Broady, and Jade Curtis will play in the qualifying event.

In the men's draw Alex Bogdanovic, Dan Evans, Josh Goodall and James Ward have been allocated wild cards into main draw with Richard Bloomfield, Dan Cox, Chris Eaton and Alex Slabinsky all given a chance to come through qualifying.

Bulgarian teenager Grigor Dimitrov and Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero have also been given a chance to play in the main draw at SW19.

Qualifying for The Championships, Wimbledon runs from 15-18th June and is held at the Bank of England Sports Club at Roehampton. The Championships begins on Monday 22nd June.
