Default Re: Seb's Come Back

Seb's match is first on centre court tomorrow. This is the preview of the match from the Aegon Championships official site:

Tuesday Preview
Sebastien Grosjean v Juan Carlos Ferrero
Played-Ferrero leads 2-1

The last time these two players met, Juan Carlos Ferrero had just captured his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and Sebastien Grosjean had reached the first of his two finals at The Queen's Club. Not since Wimbledon in 2003 have these two faced each other, when Grosjean used his grass court prowess to stun the French Open champion at the All England Club. Times have changed for both players with Ferrero coming into the AEGON Championships at No. 90 in the world, while Grosjean is playing in his first ATP tournament since October having been sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The Frenchman made his return to action in Nottingham last week but has not won a match at this level since Wimbledon last year, but he is still one of the quickest movers in the world. Ferrero, who is one victory short of his 400th career win, has had the better of Grosjean on clay, and even though grass has not been his favourite surface, fitness could prove pivotal in today's encounter.

Verdict - Ferrero to book his place in the second round.

Good luck Seb!

Poor Seb!!

His serve just wasn't there and he looked like his shoulder was pretty uncomfortable. There are only a couple of wildcards left for Wimbledon, but I doubt he'd even request one, so it's pretty unlikely he will play there.

I think it's just a little too soon for him at the moment as the conditions are cold and his serve is not back yet.

We'll just have to wait and see if he can feel better as the season progresses.

I doubt whether he will be at Wimbledon, don't think he'll request a wildcard unless he's 100% - and judging by today's performance he is still a long way off of that.
I don't really know what to expect, his service is clearly not up to scratch with the shoulder, and although today his movement didn't seem to be suffering too much today he was clearly in pain. The commentators today were talking almost as if they expect to not see Seb again and he was looking pretty frustrated and fed up with it all.
Hopefully he will prove them wrong

And the plus side, Seb appears to be playing with his cap back today - although not the traditional turned-up peak.
To me, it looks like Seb has been suffering ever since he ditched the cap?

Totally agree.

It's nice to watch him (and his cap ) again, and he apparently was missing the tour too. It must have been hard for him to be at the tournaments, meet other players, but not be able to play himself. But he obviously is not able to play a match at the highest level at the moment

Good luck Seb

P.S. Thanks for the latest news and photos

Yeah, he looked over at his coach at one point and shook his head and he just wasn't happy. But I think he did have to try and find out where his fitness level stands when it comes to playing main draw matches. As you said, fingers crossed he will come back when he's more able.

I agree, it must have been tough, and he's obviously trying his best.

a bit uneasy...
Just now TV showed Roddick has won a match and proceeded...

Btw, Sebbie was supposed to play against Ferrero? It just reminded me the time when I began to watch tennis. Ferrero, Seb, Roddick... they were top players, but seems they suddenly got off from the chart... seems they were stuggling to go back...

Anyway, all the best for Seb in the coming season I hope he could play in Wimbledon as before... remember the days when I sat in front of the TV to watch the semi-finals and was really really nervous...

Plus, thanks GrosjeanFan for the photos!

I read the long article in l'equipe this morning and it doesn't sound very positiv. He served around 185 km/h during the first three games but in the middle of the set on one serve he felt a big pain the same that in the last USO. He could no more hit the ball without pain even from the baseline.

He was anxious cos one hour after the match he was still painful. He was still expecting a Wc for Wim but now he no more think to Wim. He must do some medical exams and meet the doctor but he's sure he doesn't want again infiltrations.
