He deserved a better ceremony than that! Just after the Rezai match, the stands looked empty, the atmosphere was gloomy, the interview a bit awkward...

I missed too ! Maybe it's better like that, it seems this pseudo ceremony was a shame
It's clear soulage that Seb would have deserved a better hommage. The last year the medias were talking much more about Fabrice !
Well, maybe it's because Seb is not very communicative, his discretion did't help.
J'aimerais savoir s'il a été invite sur la terrasse avec Luyat au cours de la semaine ? A part sa conference de presse et quelques itws ds les journaux j'ai vu aucune vidéo !
J'ai les boules.......

I should have come on here earlier, switched channels as soon as Djokovic finished. Damnit xD Although doesn't sound like anything too special :/ Is there anywhere I could watch it now?

Happy Birthday Seb

Awe! Thanks for the pic!

It's a shame if Seb's farewell was rushed as you describe - he certainly deserves better.

In any case, Happy Birthday Seb!

It wasn't really rushed, but there was not a lot of atmosphere.
I don't know if you've found in the meantime a video of the ceremony working abroad?
Otherwise I see that a Classim poster posted a little video he's made himself:

There is an interview with him in the last issue of Tennis Magazine, he explains a little bit when he took the decision to stop (only 2 weeks before RG), etc. He invited Jérémy Chardy to his place before Miami for 3 days of practice - but after 2 days he was already unable to play, so he started to realize that it was over for him.
He says that the shoulder surgery was successful, he has no pain anymore. But he has the shoulder of an amateur player now. He will be pleased to play exhibitions or on the Seniors tour, but his body can't cope anymore with the high level.
So at least it doesn't sound like he's suffering in his everyday's life, like before the surgery.

I don't remember everything, but they don't ask him if he will play doubles, unfortunately, I thought it would be a good solution to play at least a couple of events in France - and maybe this time they would give him a decent farewell.

Has it been posted on French forums or do you need me to make screenshots? There are 5 pages.

Thanks for the info!

It's very hard to find anything about Seb these days...
I'm glad his shoulder has recovered, but very sad that he can no longer play on the main tour.
It would indeed have been interesting to know if he would play doubles.
I haven't seen this article anywhere.

Thanks again - always nice to hear about Seb!

Well it makes sense for him to stop playing. I wholeheartedly agree that he needs a better farewell, so hopefully he will play doubles at Bercy. Thanks for the update.

I just re-read the first part, here are a few other things he says:
When he started his career, he thought he woudn't still be playing at the age of 30. He thought he would be fed up with that way of life, all the sacrifices it means, etc. In fact, he didn't play much longer because of his injuries, but he never had this feeling of being fed up, he loves tennis way too much.
He doesn't sound very bitter about the way his career ended, it's normal to go downhill, etc.

He sounds more bitter about the treatment he has gotten from the media during his career. He now understands he wasn't giving to the media what they were expecting from the French number 1. But he just wasn't feeling like doing this stuff back then. He was afraid to spread himself too thin, he also wanted to protect himself and his family.
But it isn't only his fault. The media could have been more generous with him too. Like when he won Bercy in 2001 and qualified for the Masters Cup and he didn't even make the cover of the French Tennis Magazine. He says he had a grudge against them, he felt like media only were talking about him to report his injuries and not his achievements. "If you like somebody, you're going to write a beautiful story about him. If you don't like him that much, you'll write an average story."
The journalist retorts that the media did like him, but it seemed Seb didn't like them, Seb says it's wrong, etc.

He will probably keep doing commentary for a French TV channel, all the more since the channel he was working with during RG bought the TV rights of the M1000 events.
He talks about his foundation, why he picked this cause, etc. I think you already know all this?
He would also like to organize a tournament, he's already working for the Saint-Rémy Challenger with Bernard Fritz. He could imagine working for another Challenger or maybe an ATP event. But he doesn't want to work as a coach.

That's just the first part - then he talks about his career, his biggest matches in his opinion, his disagreements with the French tennis association when he was fired because he wasn't tall enough, his image of not being a hardworker, etc.

Thanks for the elaboration. I do hope he works with tournaments. I remember overhearing him talking at IW about issues that he had with some stops on the tour, namely, Indian Wells. I think that would be an excellent role for him, and would keep him involved with the game.
