Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I finally got to see Seb play again!
OK, I know he lost, but I don't care as these are the last chances I will have to watch him in a match.
He looked happy and seemed to be enjoying himself.

BTW, does anyone else hate Frew McMillan's commentary? My heart always sinks when he starts talking as he always says that he doesn't see what is so special about Seb's game, even though he admits plenty of people love it. Why can't he keep his mouth shut? - it should be commentary about the match, not his personal opinion of the player. And yes, he did it again today, even though it was an exhibition match and Seb was clearly not in contention. Oh well, rant over!

His meniscus is bothering him and he refused the wild-card for RG. He will play in doubles with Richard, though.
He says he will retire at the latest at the end of the season.

Sad news Fran, but thanks for the update. He deserves to be pain free. I hope he will be able to take a wildcard into some grass events and play Paris of course.

And congrats aliasthad, the last time i saw seb live was his IW loss to Soderling a few years back. lucky you! I hope some video of the exhibition match turns up somewhere, fingers crossed.

Yes, very sad news indeed, but not entirely unexpected given all his injury problems and absence from the tour. It would be great to see him on the grass courts and possibly in Paris.

It was so nice to see him play today. If anyone is interested, I uploaded the entire Guinot Mary Cohr exhibition match from today to Megaupload. I have to warn it's a hefty file (239.66 MB FLV file - about 1.5 hours to download), but I compressed it as much as possible while maintaining quality. The match was 57 minutes long and I did not have time to chop it up and post to YouTube etc. but if anyone really wants me to I will. It's here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ADULVAKL

I have lots of other matches if anyone would like to request clips (British broadcasts from 2005 onwards).

Edit: Here's one of the only pics I could find so far of the match:

Thanks a lot, Alias, I was supposed to record the match for somebody else and I was desperately trying to record it from the ES Player.

EDIT: this time it worked for me with the ES Player, so I have the file too if somebody needs it, it's bigger (450 MB), no commentary, works well in WMP for me.

------------

There is a full page about him today in L'Equipe and he clearly says he won't play in singles anymore. He would need surgery again, for his knee this time, which he doesn't want anymore, understandably. He says his last singles tournament was Sunrise. It's strange, though, because other news were saying that he will play Wimbledon.

Coach ? Non. » – V. C.

It's weird, the whole page in L'Equipe is written in past tense and he definitely says in the interview that Sunrise was his last tournament in singles, but all the tennis websites, including lequipe.fr, are still saying that he will stop at the end of the season. Nobody seems to take up the news in L'Equipe, although it even is on the front page.

I would love it if he played any more tournaments, I will keep my hopes high but my expectations low. I can't imagine what it must be like trying to play at that level with 2 recurring injuries on your mind.

Alias, Thanks so much for the exo match, I am downloading it as I type this. I would love to see what matches you have, is there any way you could post them or pm them to me? I have spent a long time searching DVD sites, torrent sites, etc. for matches of Seb. Im quite the fanatic seeing as watching his matches as a child helped me fall in love with playing and watching this sport.

Fran, is the file you have higher def, or just a different format? If it is higher definition, I would love to get it! Thanks.

Hey there!

I'll see what I can do about sending you a list - I have around 61 complete matches (starting with Madrid 2005) and other interviews and clips. I also have the Roddick/Grosjean 2002 Davis Cup SF match.

Check out my YouTube vids - I made a couple using some of Seb's matches and clips I have.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Crusoe89

Since a lot of these are on VHS, it can take a bit of time to rip them to DVD and then to the PC, but if there's anything you really want, I'll see what I can do.

As for the exhibition match, I have the whole thing in perfect quality straight from yesterday's broadcast, but it is 1.5 GB. I converted it to an FLV in order to make it a smaller download, but if you'd like the better quality version, let me know.

Here is the rest of the page in L'Equipe:
Quote:

I read also everywhere about playing Wimbledon. Maybe he asked a WC and wait after that maybe some tournaments in france to say goodbye

I have definitely checked out your youtube vids, kudos on those! I also keep finding myself on youtube watching the Seb-Nalbandian AO 2007 highlights over and over. I would love to have the match in high quality but if it is too much trouble, please do not feel obligated And of course, thanks for taking the time to list out your Seb Library!

And of course, Thanks for the article Fran , I love the layout and the matches they highlight at the top. I'll never forget the Agassi match.

More tributes to him today in L'Equipe (Arnaud and Hagelauer), they all speak of him in past tense again, the article doesn't specify further when he's going to retire. It's really weird everybody seems to overlook that sentence about Sunrise being his last singles tournament.
In yesterday's interview he explains he tried to get ready for the clay season and RG, but he couldn't practice twice in a row because his knee was hurting too much. So even if the Wimby matches are shorter and he feels more at ease on grass, it doesn't make much sense to me to play in singles.

Arnaud's and Hagelauer's reactions:
Quote:
» – F. Ra.
