Greg got another straight sets win over Knittel. If he can get past Ebden it'll be the first time he has qualified for an ATP tournament. Ebden will be tough but he has been shaky in his last two matches. I guess if Jonesie could qualify he might actually be in line for an Aussie Open wildcard.
Jonesie unable to get past Ebden, losing a match which was closer than the score suggested 6-4, 6-1. Jonesie served ok but Ebden returned better and was able to dictate play with his serve, Jonesie making too many errors when faced with a lot of 2nd serve offerings from Ebden.
Greg got up over Patience 4-6 6-4 9-7 in AO qualies. He served for the match at 5-3, got a bit shaky but regrouped to take it in the end.
Watched the match. Jonesie had s shocker of a first set, serving at about 30%. He did improve though, had a bit of luck in winning the 2nd set and played very well in the 3rd set. He did nothing wrong serving at 5-3, hitting 5 first serves. Had a net cord winner against him, then a shanked return to his feet to go 0-30 down, then a 210k body serve which Patience returned of the top off his racket to the baseline. Ridiculous really but it did not faze Jonesie who hung tough and served/played well for his 9-7 win.
Greg won 7-6(5) 6-7(7) 10-8. Greg ended up winning 59 of 65 first serves at 91% great work he also hit 16 aces where Bozoiljac got 26 but the main thing is he won he will play top seed Blaz Kavcic, bloody hope he wins.
Jonesie did not have his best match but played well. Could not convert on 6 break points which made the difference in the end. Kavcic was solid but unspectacular. He had a good week but just shaded in the last match, his previous long three setters taking their toll.
Jonesie bounced back, after a disappointing showing in the 2nd round of the doubles in the Oz Open against the No.4 seeds, with wins in the first round of both the singles and doubles in the Honolulu Challenger. Dispensed with wild card Devin Britton 6-4, 6-4. Now faces a tougher assignment against No.3 seed Ryan Sweeting.
