Jonesie ran out of puff, going down to Irishman Conor Niland in three sets after winning the first set, losing 46, 75, 62. A close thing in the second but no doubt Jonesie not at full fitness after battling a leg injury and having played a long 3 set match the day before.
Hope he can get back into full fitness and get some decent court time.
Jonesie kicks off post-Wimbledon with a solid come-from-behind win in the $50k Challenger in Winetka, Chicago, beating former top 100 player Amer Delic 67(8), 62 64. Good mental strength shown by Jonesie not letting that close first set tie-break loss get to him.
Unbelievable at The Campbell's Hall of Fame ATP250 in Newport. There have been so many withdrawals at this iconic grass tournament that Jonesie, ranked at 218, has snuck into the Main Draw.
This will be only the 2nd ATP tour event of has career.
(The other one was Sydney, courtesy of a WC from TA. That is amazing as Jonesie was a World No.4 Junior and reached the French Open Junior Final, in 2007 - only reward has been 1 measly singles WC from TA since then ?)
Hope Jonesie can make use of this unexpected opportunity.
He joins Matt Ebden, also in the MD at Newport
He gave Rochus a shake.
Tough match against last year's finalist and experienced world No.73, Jonesie again came close, but did not get over the line, losing 46, 63, 36.
Not much in it stats wise but Jonesie faced more break-points than Rochus.
Who-ever served first won the set it seems.
Damn bad luck could have got to the top 200 if he had a win. Stil Rochus is a good gras courter and took a set off Del Potro at Wimbledon so good signs for Greg. Would like to see him given some WC's this coming Aussie Summer.
Diaappointingly Jones goes down to Simmonds 6-2, 7-6(2). A missed opportunity there.
Interestingly Simmonds went on to beat No.4 seed Tim Smyczek in the final round and qualified, so in a purple patch at the moment.
Jonesie eases through the final round of qualifying in LA, with a 64 60 win over some Chilean dude Nicolas Massu, to qualify for an ATP Tour event for the first time. Well done Jonesie. Another stepping stone on your tennis journey.
